It's not that bad. I drove it with just the kid and I twice. It's just boring... and trees. And a bay here and there. But mostly boring.puke_face wrote:Which isn't bad, considering we live in Kansas and it's an hours drive to do anything where we live. Her family lives in Denver, so we travel 6.5-7 hour depending on weather, traffic, etc. From our house to her mom's house. Only bad thing is she will be making that drive herself, and in unfamiliar territory. I'm debating weather or not to just go with her, because then we could probably just drop the rental car off at the airport and head home from LA. But if I do go along, I'll miss out on hanging out with my brother at his new place.. So I have some decisions to make.KitKatCara wrote: Sounds like it can be anywhere from the border to Baton Rouge. For us, it's a 5 hour car ride if traffic in Baton Rouge isn't bad. Or construction. I got caught in construction last time and it turned into a 7.5 hour car ride. Our hometown is only about 35 minutes away from the Mississippi border so we go across the whole state.
I'm here for your body.

Well, considering how well populated it is there, they're a bit more likely to be there or in DFW than anywhere else in Texas.AppleQueso wrote:Why are so many Texas racketfolk clustered around the Houston area?

What part?puke_face wrote:...we live in Kansas...
I grew up in Overland Park (i.e., just south of KC and right up next to the Missouri border). I traveled all over the state for fun and football, however.

I'll be tired and grumpy. The wife always gets a second wind with things like that. I'm not sure how. Just the thought of the trip is exhausting to meHobie-wan wrote:I can understand the "well we're closer than we are when at home", but you could be adding 4-10 hours of driving for a visit and you're already going to be tired and grumpy with moving.puke_face wrote:It's one of those things man, one of those things. It just can't be a simple "help my brother move". It's gotta be "Oh! Well, while we are down there..."Marriage rage, lol.
Edit:
They will be moving to Dayton, Texas. So the drive to New Orleans will be right around 4 hours.

Times 2, plus maybe more depending on traffic. So that's at least 8 more hours of driving and time taken even if you just say hello and then turn around and leave. That could add an overnight stay onto the trip. So several extra tanks of gas, food, possibly a hotel and extra rental day.puke_face wrote:They will be moving to Dayton, Texas. Im a bit ticked about this renting a car nonsense. They rope you in with a low price, then double it with the insurance.
Years ago I got suckered into buying the car rental insurance in Vegas which is in another state from where I live. Got in a car accident and the cop, yes the cop deliberately asked if I had my own insurance. This was after I stated I had purchased the car rental insurance! Even though the rental car was covered by the rental insurance, my own insurance had to pay for damages and I got stuck with a higher rate for the next few years.
NEVER BUY CAR RENTAL INSURANCE, YOU ARE VERY LIKELY COVERED BY YOUR OWN INSURANCE ALREADY. CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE AHEAD OF TIME.
Triple AAA for example, covers whatever vehicle you drive. Yours, a friends or even a rental.

I'm only here for work. I'd rather be back home in Louisiana, but there's just too much opportunity here to leave. Even if this job doesn't pan out, there's tons of other Linux Administration jobs that I can get into here. Whenever I was searching for jobs online, it was always Houston or California.AppleQueso wrote:Why are so many Texas racketfolk clustered around the Houston area?
I've tried it on both my 1000 and 2000, and it's actually performing slightly better on the 1000. I'm not really sure what's wrong. I'm using Euphoria (not sure what ver.) and haven't had a chance to look into alternatives.REPO Man wrote:I have the same issue with my PSP. Which model are you using? Are there even any regular posters from the DFW area, though? None are coming to mind, but I imagine someone's gonna come along and mention a member and I'm gonna just be all "d'oh!"Forlorn Drifter wrote:Well, considering how well populated it is there, they're a bit more likely to be there or in DFW than anywhere else in Texas.AppleQueso wrote:Why are so many Texas racketfolk clustered around the Houston area?
Just a bit of an observation. Texas is really big, after all.
