State of Decay(XBLA) anyone else addicted to it yet?

Post by Fragems »

Anyone else been playing this? I kept hearing about it all last week and finally got around to downloading it today.

So far I am pretty impressed. This game has the foundation from which in my opinion the perfect zombie/survival game could be made. It's kind of like having the open world and scavenging of Day-Z mixed with the management system of Zafehouse Diaries with a bunch of awesome sauce sprinkled on top.

If I were to rate it right now with 2-3 hours under my belt I would probably give it an 8/10. The game needs polish in some areas but at the same time is really fun to play and addictive as hell. It only cost $20 so if you aren't zombied out at this point and have some spare money to toss around I highly recommend picking it up.

Here is a video from kotaku showing off some of the gameplay.

Edit:
Adding the trailer.

Does it have local multiplayer? I read some reviews when it came out but the price tag and the fact that it isn't on PlayStation has held me back. Split screen would push me over the edge for sure.

There is also going to be a pc release so some may want to hold off on it until then since I know a lot of people would prefer that.

It is more of a survival RPGish type game. I guess they could do multiplayer or split screen but I am not sure if it would be that great for the game. So no, it is single player.

At the moment it is single player only. They do plan to add co-op later no clue if its going to be local though.

Looks like they will be releasing it for PC through steam sometime as well.

Oh are they? I heard they may make an MMO based on it, but didnt know there would be a coop for the single player game.

Yeah they are planning to release it as DLC though or at least that is the rumor :P. Initially they intended to have co-op from the get go from what I can tell but cut it at some point in order to focus on other aspects like base building, AI, and etc.

Looked on the official site and the official statement as of now is the following.
I have no info. about how/when/if coop will be added. If just your enthusiasm were enough, it would be in already Thanks very much for your support.

Was off work today and sunk a solid 5 hours into the game. Have to say I have really been enjoying it. While the game itself is getting to be surprisingly easy now that I have 4-5 battle hardened survivors I can swap between with another 10 holding down the fort. I still find myself in a adrenaline pumping pinch from time to time. I still do not know how I have not lost one of my 3 starter characters yet :P. I have been within seconds of death more times then I wish to think about. Which is kind of cool because you feel like a bad ass after dragging yourself to hell and back.

Probably my best moment of the day was a rather simple mission or so it seemed. I was tasked with retrieving a plastic watch with fish on it from a corpse as a memento for a grieving daughter. Thinking it would be a walk in the park since I was just returning to the starting area I decided to drag my ill supplied and tired survivor up there thinking it would just be a walk in the park. However I forgot a couple of things 1st of all the bridge to that area was out, 2nd there were no vehicles on the other side of the bridge, and 3rd my car was definitely not the General Lee. So after plummeting a good 50 feet into a creek i get launched out of the windshield and watch as my health trickles down to nothingness :P. As luck would have it I still had a couple of pain killers left so I quickly swallowed a bottle of happy time pills and pretended that I was covered in ketchup :P. That is when things went from bad to worse. As I dragged my ass up the cliff side my poor little hatchback blew to smithereens. Which was bad enough but to add insult to injury I got watch the minimap fill with a nice big blue sound ring which was soon replaced with a swarm of red dots. 10 minutes later thanking god that the majority of the horde overlooked a fellow walking corpse I reach the ranger station where the watch is located but.... it's freaking infested with screamers and about 20 walkers :P. So i ponder my options for a second before saying screw it and running in Rambo style with a baseball bat. Through some miracle I survive but im down to my last bottle of meds and only have 5 rounds left before my silencer breaks and my rifle transforms from a weapon into a dinner bell. So I scoop up the crappy fifty cent plastic watch and slowly hobble my way back to the bridge making my way down into the red dot filled creek glad to finally be through with this god forsaken mission. However there is something hunched over the burnt rubble that was my glorious car. Low and behold its the first feral zombie of my game. I had been warned that they were kind of like the hunters from left 4 dead so I knew what was coming next but figured I could finish him off with my last 3 silenced shots. WRONG 1, 2, 3 shots to the head and all i have managed to do is piss it off :P. So next thing I know I'm being humped by a very angry corpse who takes great pleasure in smearing ketchup all over my clothes :X. After a finger breaking button mash session during which I was pounced not once but twice. I some how managed to survive with the lightest sliver of red for a health bar and a nearly demolished bat with only 2-3 swings away from completely breaking. Thankfully a car was waiting for me right at the side of the bridge after I dragged myself up the other side of the cliff and I drove into the sunset plowing down zeds by the dozen as I slowly headed for home.

Probably a good idea :P I love the game but i have to admit it does have issues. One of the most noticeable of which is major FPS drops while driving in areas with multiple hordes.
