What was the last movie you've seen?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

I loved Wreck-it Ralph. So it's tough. I don't know if it's their best. But maybe my favorite? I'll put it this way, I might think others are better films, but I'm more likely to rewatch Ralph a bunch of times.

BTW, Up is one of the most depressing things I've ever sat through. Brutal.

Ralph isn't a Pixar film, is it?

checked: Yeah it's just a Disney CG movie, like Bolt (Bolt is awesome, btw)

Story-wise - definitely UP.
cool-factor - Incredibles
Heart-wrenching-makes-you-wanna-cry-when-they-hold-hands-in-the-incinerator-scene: Toy Story 3.
Yup!

Yeah... thanks. It was me that first claimed Pixar made Ralph...

Monsters University

In a word: Excellent.

After being underwhelmed by their post-Up output and fearing they'd peaked with that film, I went into this one with high expectations, hoping that it would be a return to form and I wasn't the least bit disappointed. As Luke said, it's primarily a comedy film with little emotional content, but the comedy is extremely funny and the few emotional scenes were very well done. Something that particularly impressed me was how the story was written in such a way that you could see this one first, then look at Monsters Inc as the sequel and everything would still match up and flow together naturally (unlike the Star Wars prequels, which work better dramatically if you watch them after seeing the originals). This is, without a doubt, their best film in years and I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in animation. Bravo, Pixar!

Lookie lookie, we totally agree on almost every aspect. Please tell me you were in the theater in time to see the short that preceded MU.

It was in 2009 or 2010 when Disney was showing this to focus groups, and there were four versions of the film. They worked their tails off to "get it right" and they did. It's not perfect, but it sure is great.

So! Big Willie won't be in ID4:2. I never thought I'd see the day where Will Smith started ruining film. Scientology, After Earth, now this. They really do come in threes.

I was. I don't know if the similarity is intentional, but it reminded me very much of Johnny Fedora And Alice Bluebonnet, which is cool 'cause that's one of my favorite old-school Disney shorts.

It was.

Just like PAPERMAN, it was super impressive. At times the line between animation and live action seemed to blur.

So I watched a couple of movies yesterday. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, and Man of Steel.

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

I do love a good noir film, and while this one has moments of complete ridiculousness and spends a lot of time laughing at the LA lifestyle and the genre in general, I think it makes a great addition to the genre. Also, I'm glad to see Val Kilmer working in a film actually worth checking out!

Man of Steel

I liked it. It is what it is, and there are some bizarre issues I had with the plot,
Lois Lane is everywhere
which have probably all been mentioned in this thread already. But as far as its genre is concerned, I thought it did an admirable job with the Superman property.
Lois Lane is everywhere!
I have no desire to see it again any time soon though. It seems to be a spectacle which would wear long and thin on further viewings.
Seriously, Lois Lane really is everywhere. That lady really gets around.
