Uninformed retro rumors you'd like to squash

Post by Gooseberrysoda »

There are a couple of rumors (that are driving me nuts) that seem to crop up all the time from people who have never had firsthand experience with certain games/consoles.

The Rumor: The Atari Jaguar controller isn't comfortable
The Reasoning:
"Just look at it! LOOK!"

The Truth: It fits well in the hands of an adult male
The Reasoning:
Most people take one look at the Jag's silly controllers and scoff, but anyone with hands of an average size who's had a chance to hold one will attest that it's so worse than any other pre-N64 controller. The handle placements are similar to the Saturn 3D pad.

The Rumor: "Street Fighter: The Movie The Game" controls horribly on Sega Saturn
The Reasoning:
Digitized graphics, a movie-based game from a lackluster movie, the arcade version blew

The Truth: Not a great game, but plays like Street Fighter
The Reasoning:
The arcade version wasn't developed by Capcom; the home versions were. I personally can't vouch for the controls on the Playstation, but the Saturn version handles like a slower version of the series we all know (and some love).

Other people must notice these trends, and it seems like the truth has to be explained over and over again in threads across the web. Just once, let's compile a list of falsehoods prove them worng?
Sega Genesis (Model 2), Sega CD, Sega 32X, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Game Boy Family, Phillips CD-i Model 910, NES, Atari 5200, Virtual Boy, Atari Jaguar, Playstations 3-4

Agreed on the Saturn version of SF The movie. Remember me and my other friend were laughing at one of my boys who had the game. We then played it and realized it was just slightly shittier SF2. My other friend couldn't admit he was wrong and kept pretending the bad was atrocious.
