I remember reading that the plots were supposed to be related but I never ended up playing Colonial Marines so I don't know.dsheinem wrote:I didn't think that was a companion game at all, was it? It came out at least a year or two earlier...are the plots related?Gunstar Green wrote:At least we got a fun companion game out of it on the DS with "Aliens: Infestation."

Well that was fast
I picked the regular shipping option (4-7 days)...but it was at my door when I got home this afternoon. Installing now....thoughts later.

FYI, Colonial Marines is one of those games that'll give your problems in MAME.dsheinem wrote:ENJOY YOUR INFERIOR CONSOLE PORT SCRUBnoiseredux wrote:oh I unded up ordering it from Gamefly yesterday. It's $10 there so I'm cool with that.

So I spent about a 30-45 min with it so far.
Initial impressions are that the dialogue/plot run from cliche to lazy and insulting, the art design and graphics (esp. lighting) are generally good, the A.I. is overall shitty and weak (Aliens have never been so easy to kill in an FPS Alien game), and the gameplay is pretty straightforward (and perhaps a bit by-the-numbers). Level design seems poorly thought out....linearity is not so good for an Aliens game, I think.
I've seen some telltale signs already that it needed more work - some frame drops, some enemies coming through closed doors, etc. I'm curious to see if it gets much worse or not as the game progresses. I'm playing the PC version, which is supposed to be the best version from a technical standpoint
So far it isn't as bad as I was led to believe, but it hasn't done anything to really impress me other than to put a franchise I like in a shiny new graphics engine (and not without problems). howlongtobeat says the game should take about five hours, so I expect to get through this pretty quick. Considering that this was free after rebate, I can't really complain too much. For $60? I'd probably already be mad.
Sooo glad I canceled my preorder once the reviews started coming in

Re: Aliens: Colonial Marines (PS3, 360, Wii U and..PC!?!?!?!
so I've been playing my $10 copy of Colonial Marines for a half hour now... I'm no FPS aficionado of course, but I'm finding it pretty damn enjoyable so far.

I found the second half hour worse than the first.noiseredux wrote:so I've been playing my $10 copy of Colonial Marines for a half hour now... I'm no FPS aficionado of course, but I'm finding it pretty damn enjoyable so far.
I might just crank this one out to the end tonight after the house goes to bed....
