I am trying to fit the following systems in my "man room" all hooked up to 1 tv, using a pelican system selector pro:
Gen model 1/CD model 2
Saturn
Dreamcast
NES
SNES
N64
Game Cube w/Gameboy player
Turbo Duo
I am passing on hooking up my sms, because I have a neomyth 4 in 1 that has FM sound.
Any advice or direction would be awesome. Can't be more than 32" wide.
Thanks!
TV stand that will fit 8 systems < 32" wide?
Re: TV stand that will fit 8 systems < 32" wide?
You say TV stand, so you want the TV to be on top, and then shelves with all the systems underneath? How big and what kind of TV is it? If it's a CRT then you have to find something with a fair amount of structural strength, while if it's an LCD you could probably just use a small bookcase.

Eight consoles, one TV, and only 32" wide? You might have trouble finding something that'll get the job done for you.
Like Popo said, is this a CRT TV? If it's an HDTV, being widescreen, it can't be very big to fit on a 32" stand. The thing of it is, most TV stands these days are only rated for the weight of an HDTV. Why make the stand stronger (and thus more money to produce) if no one has CRT TVs anymore? Especially a smaller stand that's only 32" wide. You'll have enough trouble finding something to accommodate your needs. You might have even more trouble finding something that's strong enough for the weight of a CRT.
My suggestion, as always, would be to build something yourself. If you build it yourself, you can tailor it to your exact needs. Fit perfectly where you want it, have enough room for everything you wanna fit in it (maybe even more), be strong enough, hell you even get to choose what color (or stain) you want it to be! Depending on exactly what, the materials would cost you about the same.
If you don't have the means, surely you have a friend or relative that could help you out with it. Unless you wanna do real fancy ornate stuff, it'll actually be fairly easy.

It will be a for a 32 inch SONY Trinitron CRT TV.
Yeah I am thinking about doing a custom storage unit. However, I work a ton and rarely have energy when I get home. I would love something already done

Not sure if this will be useful advice or not, but maybe take a look into fishtank stands. They hold a lot of weight. CRT stands pretty much don't exist anymore.

If it's a 32" TV, then it would be less than 32" wide, since screens are measured diagonally. I'm too tired to do the math right now. Or did you mean it's 32" wide?
As for storage, IKEA has some nice options, although I don't know whether weight would be a concern. I use a small Billy bookcase to store most of my systems next to my TV stand.

A 32" CRT screen will have a screen horizontal of 25.6" (3:4:5 triangle), but then add in the monitor parts on the side and it's probably going to be 32" wide.

I have my 34" Trinitron on a fish stand and have five consoles underneath. The way it was set I could, theorthetically, put two small ones (Wii and GameCube) on the side or on top. I could probably fit a six underneath if I stood the PS3 up.
I've had it like that for a ear and the stand is still holding strong.
Systems Owned: NES, Sega Genesis (Non-TMSS), Game Boy, Game Gear, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis (Model 2), PlayStation, N64, Sega Dreamcast, GBA SP, Xbox, Playstation 2, Gamecube, Xbox 360, Wii, Playstation 3, PSP, Nintendo 3DS

Nice. Do you have a picture? I also forgot about the ps2. So 9 consoles. I just found some sexy cables that will allow me to put the majority of my collection through scart->component!Aar1012 wrote:Jrecee wrote:Not sure if this will be useful advice or not, but maybe take a look into fishtank stands. Re: TV stand that will fit 8 systems < 32" wide?
I kind of tried to figure out a good way to do what you're doing, but with more systems, and leaving some room for a couple more in the future. I like keeping everything as consistent and organized as possible, so finding a perfect shelf to hold 10 game systems, and then buying a turbografx and having to set it on top of the tv or something would be lame...
So I sort of gave up on the under the tv idea. The problem with it is that you really can't go over two shelves, or the tv ends up being too high up (And some consoles need a good amount of vertical space, i.e. genesis with 32X with game genie, with sonic and knuckles with sonic 3)
So I think I'm just going to use a regular crt stand the same width as the tv, and put cube organizers on the left and right, with the wider systems sitting on top. That way I can go 3 systems high.
