I second this. The PCE has one of the best libraries overall IMO and there are tons of great games that never made it out of Japan.
Definitely go for a PC Engine Duo if you're going to get a PCE, a lot of expensive TurboGrafx games are really cheap on the PCE and most don't have too much text involved (Gate of thunder, Winds Of Thunder, Air Zonk, Soldier games...)
I was actually about to say this

Just a quick message to say that today I visited Super Potato in Akihabara for the first time and I was overwhelmed by the number of games and systems they have. Also, the fact that the store is super small (it's on three floors but each floor is small and packed) didn't help me decide what to buy.

I really need to think about the games I am more excited about (as some of you suggested) and then go buy the system that supports those games.

Just so you know, there's another Super Potato in Ikebukuro that has better prices than the one in Akihabara on most things. They also have a lot more in their junk boxes. (I pulled out two DC maraca controller input bars for free; lots of LE giveaways, and other special demo discs for free; etc.)

hooooooooly shit. Would love to visit Japan someday - my planned visit a few years back was wrecked by that shitty ass tsunami. What a great game store. And yes, there were Ataris in Japan.
