Thanks.

In other news a sealed copy of Chrono Trigger for DS is arriving next week.
I can't wait to finish the game (played it on emulator 2 years ago).

Wow! What a collection. I'm actually starting a GB/GBC collection. I love how I could have alot of them and they dont take up space.

Can I get some advice? What is your experience with bootlegs, are they only for "newer" stuff like gba and ds? Is it easy to avoid them online? And what about batteries, around how many carts have you needed to change the battery for?

Sorry for all the questions :D

I sincerely don’t realize at all if my collection is good or bad in the eyes of others. So I’m glad to see any kind of feedback.

True, is easy to collect handheld games because you don’t need a lot of space. My entire collection is sitting in a corner of a bookshelf: the games in the binder and the consoles and accessories in two plastic (IKEA type) boxes.
Can I get some advice? What is your experience with bootlegs, are they only for "newer" stuff like gba and ds? Is it easy to avoid them online?
Let’s start with the newer games:
- For 3DS there are no bootlegs. Not as I know…
- For DS there are a lot!!! You have to be careful when you buy DS games from unknown sellers. Try some links like this one to determine if the games are fake or not:
http://www.wikihow.com/Determine-if-You ... me-Is-Fake
I just got fooled by a serious user that sold me a sealed copy of Chrono Trigger. The game is fake and doesn’t work but it looks amazingly good. I had a lot of fake DS games.
- For GBA there are also a lot of fake games, but usually they are easy to recognize because they are missing basic things like the Nintendo seal of quality, or the serial number and the quality of the cartridge and sticker is usually pretty bad.
- For GBC games I have to be honest, I never found a good bootleg. All bootlegs of GBC games have GB classic case and are very easy to spot.
- For GB classic the bootlegs are also pretty easy to spot, there are some on the market but not as many as for DS and GBA.

So, to avoid bootlegs when buying online I recommend you to double check the pictures of the product and ask all the details you want to know from the seller.
Also, always check the serial numbers of the games on google. By simply introducing a serial number on google, for example: DMG-AD3P-EUR you can get a fast response if the sn is from a good or fake cart.
And what about batteries, around how many carts have you needed to change the battery for?
I never had to change a battery from a GB or GBC game… But on the forums I’ve read that the batteries are starting to stop working so I’ve bought a couple of batteries to have if needed (the model is CR1616).
Sorry for all the questions :D
Nah, don’t be! I like talking about game boy and retro gaming.
Good luck with your collection and don’t hesitate to ask me if you have other questions.

Oh, and some quick tips:
- don't use chemicals to clean the plastic, you risk to damage the cartridge. Use only alcohol.
- don't use alcohol or water to clean the sticker, use only dry soft materials.
- don't buy cartridges with missing or in very bad condition stickers. They don't have much value and are ugly.
- buy damaged games (cracked case or folded sticker) only if you are sure you can restore them.
- if you don't have it, buy a GBA SP AGS 101 console to play your game boy games.

Y'know, I've heard a lot of people say there are quite a few DS bootlegs out there, but I'm yet to encounter one myself, and I have over 60 DS cartridges, a lot of which were bought 2nd hand or from eBay.

For what it's worth, there is one thing on the guide you posted that isn't quite right. It mentions how if you see 'Nintendo' printed on the board, then it is a definite fake, but this isn't true. A handful of early games for the DS do in fact have Nintendo on the board, although admittedly, most later games don't.

Exactly 2 of my cartridges have the 'nintendo' board - Project Rub, which I purchased 2 months after the DS released, new and sealed (and way before DS fakes were a thing) and Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt, which game bundled in with my DS Phat at launch. I'm positive both are genuine.

Is the backlight really that much better than the regular sp? Does it drain the battery?

Edit: Wow. I had a SP for 10 years and I didn't realize that it was frontlit, not backlit. Watched a youtube video and the 101 looks amazing. And I thought the light on the regular was great.

So forget the first question, but I have a new one to replace it. :D

Do the games ever rip or poke out parts of the card sleeve?

No. The card sleeves are strong. They rip only if you force more carts in one pocket or things like that.

I did not know that. Thanks, I will remember this.

Why are GBA SP's always in bad condition on ebay? They have scratches and dings while most gbc's and gb's aren't scratched.

The older systems were mostly just colored plastic. The SPs are generally some silvered paint over colored plastic. So the scratches in the paint are a lot more noticeable.
