What games are on these two systems that are not all ready on the NES and SNES and are playable without knowing Japanese?
Is this system even worth buying and collecting for?

Collecting SFC is stupidly easy since all you have to do is break out two pins from a SNES and you can run the carts. Apart from titles being super cheap comparatively - Megaman titles for example, there are some quirky SFC games that are worth looking into. Off the top of my head:
Battle Cross - Think RC Proam meets Bomberman
Battle Tetris Gaiden - Vs Tetris with powerups
Sutte Hakkun - Puzzle Platformer that will push your puzzle knowledge to the edge
Gundam Endless Duel - One of the best fighting games on the system
None require any knowledge of Japanese past yes/no and some time to figure out which menu option is which.

A couple more SFC games that might be worth looking into:
Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie: One of the best shooters on the system. Gorgeous, and with a pretty cool Thunderforce-stlye weapon changing mechanic. Well worth looking into.
Xandra no Daiboken (sp?): This isn't an SFC exclusive, as it was released in the PAL territories as Whirlo, but Whirlo is fairly pricey, so this is a nice alternative. This game definitely isn't for everyone, as its pretty tough and slow-paced, but I really enjoyed it.

the megaman games are also way cheaper on the famicom and super famicom and of course you don't need to know Japanese for that.

Mario & Wario is a use for the mouse.
Super Tetris 2 and Super Tetris 3 are pretty good.
These games use near entirely English.

Another few series that might be worth checking out:
Go Go Ackman
Super Bomberman (I think 4 & 5 are SFC only)
Ganbare Goemon (Iirc, 2 & 4 are playable without understanding Japanese)

Not to mention other super expensive SNES games like Hagane. Speaking of Mega Man be sure to check out the original version of Rockman & Forte which is much better than the GBA version.ninjainspandex wrote:the megaman games are also way cheaper on the famicom and super famicom and of course you don't need to know Japanese for that.
I second pretty much what everybody else said, especially Endless Duel and Scrambled Valkyrie which are honestly my favorite fighting game and shmup on the console, respectively.
An interesting game that I don't often hear spoken about is Edono Kiba, a fun forced-scrolling action game.

As fastbilly said, don't buy a Super Famicom if you already have a Super Nintendo since all it takes is a few minutes and a pair of pliers to play Super Famicom games.
As for Famicom games...
Holy Diver: *insert Dio joke here* A fun, HARD Castlevania-ish action platformer by Irem (who are responsible for two of my NES favorites, Kickle Cubicle and Metal Storm).
Crisis Force: One of the most technically impressive shmups on the console.
Gimmick: Great platformer with unique mechanics but expensive.
Nuts & Milk: I don't know how to explain it but it's a weird, fun golden age arcade game.
Gradius 2: Like Gradius, only 2!
Kid Dracula: Great platformer, pretty much like the Game Boy version.
New Ghostbusters 2: Unless you live in Europe where it's available. One of the best Ghostbusters games out there. Similar to the Game Boy Ghostbusters 2 but better.

There are waaaaay many more decent Super Famicom exclusives than Famicom exclusives. Also, it's much easier to play Super Famicom games on a SNES than it is to play Famicom games on an NES.
