Having never owned a SNES, I figure it's about time I should probably invest in one.
Someone has a mini-snes with

is this worth the price?

Well, Final Fantasy III (VI) goes for $40+ alone, so I'd say it's a pretty good deal.

When you say miniSNES, do you mean the SNES v2 or a hardware clone?

FF3 no longer sells for that much cart only. Here's a link to high-priced Amazon (<-- click the linkie...)
listing, you can see most of them are going for around $30. Ebay is even cheaper. But having said that, a system can go for $30-50 depending on where you get it, and thats a nice selection of games. I'd say it's certainly worth it.

That is without a doubt worth it. The Mini SNES is worth about $40 plus a good assortment of games. I'd say go for it.

I fell kind of silly asking, as I've played (I think) most of the "essential" snes games over time through an emulator, but any suggestions as to maybe some decent games I wouldn't otherwise think of (i.e. Final Fantasies, Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, Mario, etc...)

Also, on a side note:
99% of every game I own now is complete (box, manual), but holy crap, complete snes games seem to be non-existant, and very expensive if they are for sale. I can understand why, as cartridges probably weren't stored in cases like cd's are now, and the boxes being more fragile and all. However, I'd never think the disparity between cartridge and complete would be so high. So unfortunately, I think most of my snes collection will have to be cart only

Aside from the issues you mentioned above, a lot of the old games came with more than just the cart. It was cart, manual, sometimes a map or two, and then the box. In our youth, boxes were thrown away, and manuals and maps lost. Now we have the fancy cases that keep everything in a nice package, so there's no reason to ever separate it.

But to give you suggestions, it helps to know what you've already experienced. One man's essential is another man's never heard of it.
