The Fighter that started it all for you?

Post by Japhei »

I know it sounds weird but the first fighter to really catch my eye was the Original Street Fighter in the Arcade. It was hard as heck but well worth it when you got down the control scheme. I remember being blown away by the graphics and seeing Ryu for the first time was pretty cool. I still remember to this day how awesome that game was.

The other 2 arcades games that impressed me were Art Of Fighting and Samurai Shodown with their large characters and camera zooming.

Man I miss the old days when I could play the latest arcade game at my corner gas station.

Oh I'd have to say the original Mortal Kombat. That's the game I remember playing first.

As for the game that wanted me to try and get better at it I would say Super Smash Bros. It was really the first fighting game that I owned and I couldn't go play it at the arcade so I kept practicing at home and I didn't need quarters :D

Street Fighter 2. IDK which version, though.

But then came Mortal Kombat, which as a child of about 7 or 8, freaked me out a bit.

Street Fighter, hands down. I remember playing that at the local skating rink when I was just a wee lad. Classic times, trying to stand up straight while tossing fireballs across the screen. Man, that was awesome.

Tekken 2 at the arcade really made me a fanatic of fighting games. I remember we used to wait once a week for a new character to be released on the new machine. I also beat it in 2m45sec. which is my all time greatest video game accomplishment. everyone thought i hacked the machine. I went the the magazine store and studied all the moves with my fingers in the air, and it worked.

I did love street fighter but Tekken 2 was the one that really did it.

Street Fighter II in the arcade. Took me an embarrassingly long time just to figure out how to do the special moves

Not sure it really counts, but Karateka really started me down the road of fighting games when it came out.

Haha! But when you did, it was sure fun to pile drive people with Zangief and whach there life bar shrink to nothing, and there face drop into a state of disbelief. It was really annoying at first because everyone in my area picked blanka. Alll they did was try to electricute you and bite you. Gimme a break. Made me proud to toss a fireball in their face with dhalsim.

so yeah....street fighter 2 was the beginning. MK 2 and Samurai Showdown 2 were my bread and butter though. I lost the love after that, and just played shooters and RPG's. JoJo's Venture got me be back into fighters for a while....and nothing exept Arcana Hearts has really thrilled me since. I think it's cause there aren't any good arcades around any more, and most of my friends don't play games anymore.

street fighter 2. i think the majority of us will say that.

but as far as 3D goes i'd have to say tekken 2. no other 3d game really drew me in like that one did, and i've been a fan of the series ever since..
