Wow. Just wow. I'll be very interested to hear what comic book purists think of this one. As far as what the comics have been in recent decades, it's not even remotely like the comics. However, I thought it was absolutely true to Siegel and Shuster's original vision of the character back in 1938. He's not omnipotent, he's not all-powerful and he's not immediately trusted by all. He's more human in this film than he's ever been. One of my favorite bits in the entire movie is when he first emerges from the ship and before he figures out how to fly, he starts by leaping and my immediate thought was "able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!". I honestly wonder if anyone else in the audience caught that reference. I saw it in 3D and it was AMAZING. If you have the option, that's the way to see it, no question. I doubt this will ever unseat the Richard Donner film as the definitive version, and it probably shouldn't, but as a different take on the material (and it is very different), I was seriously impressed.

Glad you liked MAN OF STEEL Retroduder. "Wow" kind of summed it up for my first screening. Going to see it again to make sure I wasn't just in awe of the movie and I've already said it might not stand the test of time, but I've been recommending it to friends.

There are 2 things that I found to complain about when it comes to MAN OF STEEL. And they are essentially nits. Fanboy nits. Here they are:

Zod never says his iconic line. "KNEEL before Zod."

Superman is missing his red undies.

That said, forget what I said just then. The movie is perfect enough without those two little fanboy nits. I friggin' LOVED it and am in complete agreement with Retrodude on this one. The movie is fantastic. The score is great. Yes it's not Williams' Superman Theme, but that theme had it's day. A great, awesome day. The new one is just pumping, and driving. It fit the tone of the film so great. I wanna go see it again right now. Wifey said we have to wait a couple days, but dammit I wanna watch it again.

For those who have seen it:
I accept and appreciate the different Superman-Revealed-To-People-Of-Earth origin. Lois figures him out right off the bat, and already knows who he is when he shows up at the Planet. Y'know its different, and quote-unquote "wrong" that she knows. But I thought it was very well done. It would make sense that a crack reporter like Lois Lane would figure out who he was, hell, she tracked the mo-fo down before he was even Superman! lol that was great!

I remember Snyder saying there was no Kryptonite in this film, but I dont remember if its not in the universe. Are they not using Kryptonite at all? I don't mind if they don't. Works for me. Sure Green K is a classic Superman mythos element, but if they do decide to not ever use it, no problem. I can't wait to see how the rest of these films pan out. If the DC Cinematic Universe keeps this kind of Velocity, Avengers 2 has a SERIOUS threat to it's bank account.

Oh boy. Now I get to spoil!!!

You're a treat Indie, but MOS is FAR from perfect. Here's what I'm surprised people aren't nit picking about (keep in mind I saw the movie days ago, liked it a lot, and will see it again):
Supes is kind of a dick, has dialogue when he is floating horizontally (which is totally awkward and looks silly), there is NO reason for he and Lois to remotely even like each other besides the fact the story commands it, and the guy seems to have zero remorse. Oh, that and his identity is not secret at all.

Plus the guy isn't good at diners or bars (or almost anywhere). Seriously, if I saw this Superman I'd tell my wife "We're getting outta here...now".

The "Garbage eating garbage" line is something people will groan at in years to come, and why Clark even goes back to the diner makes zero sense.

And neck snapping is fine and all, as it serves a purpose, but I'm tired of all the 9/11 style levels of catastrophe in almost every stinking movie. Enough with that shit. Think of another way to tell the story other than destroying an entire city like every other movie since 1997. And don't get me started about the CGI truck thingy. So many missed opportunities that I couldn't even keep up with them.
But yeah. I could go on and on about everything wrong with the movie, but I had a blast watching it. Oh...one more major complaint:
I try to keep my language as clean as possible, but how many times would a "Oh, FUCK YOU" would have been appropriate and fitting in this film?

Just saw MoS today. I thought it was great. I know a lot of people are complaining about it, but
I'm glad Lois figured things out so fast. Like indecks said, she's supposed to be this great reporter, so it makes sense to me that she'd get to the bottom of things. Though, I do agree with Luke about the romance angle. That element did seem tacked on to me. Attraction I'd buy, but the romance was added too fast.
One of the little extras I liked
was the addition of all the Lexcorp signs during the fight with Zod. No wonder Luther hates him so much. The two of them must have taken out 3 buildings (and one tanker) in that fight

I just got back from Man of Steel with my dad for Father's day. It was stunning, action-packed, had ton of amazing special effects, and a helluva of story. It was simply astonishing.

You HAVE to go see this movie. I think Henry Cavill just became this generation's Superman. I daresay it was even better than Avengers.

The one and only complaint I had about it is: What was with the shaky camera? For high-energy action scenes, it makes sense, but it was shaky even in scenes that was nothing more than talking heads. Could we not afford a tripod?
