I've read about some auto-saving issues. But playing it offline seems to be immune to them.
I picked the game up during lunch today, but didnt have a chance to play it until just a few minutes ago. Why am I already posting instead of playing? The game doesnt fucking work! I put in the game, it just sits at the black screen with the logo... After a few minutes it gets to the main menu. I hit start and it goes to a screen showing the spores floating around, then a couple minutes later it shows a loading percentage. It is going slow as hell and I figure its installing to the HDD. I go to my phone while its doing this, I look up, wasnt the percentage over 25 the last time I looked? It was down to 20...

After what feels like forever it finally loads, and im swept into the awesome opening of the game. A few minutes into it, I notice some graphical glitches, textures are gone, one of the characters voice is missing. I press on, hoping for it to clear up. I turned around at the wrong moment and died. The game goes back to that spore loading screen, and the percentage goes backwards! It starts climbing again, but gets stuck at 97 for a long time. I said screw it, and took out the disc, flipped it over and what did I see?

See those wavy lines? They are like 100x worse in person, and there are 2 divots that you can actually feel in the disc!

I grabbed some other discs to compare, and they are smooth as glass, here is uncharted 2:

So I gotta go to Game Stop tomorrow and hope to get this resolved, I am so pissed right now, I was stoked for this game, the intro was so awesome it was making me forget about that crazy load time, but then it was all taken away! I did some quick searching and it seems that there are quite a few people having issues with the game, does anyone else have any problems?

Edit:
So I guess Dual Layer Blu Rays are supposed to have the wavy lines, my MGS4 disc confirms this, but there still are the 2 circle divots... Still taking it back.

Double edit:

Reading through this shows a lot of people with similar issues, and what is annoying is that the official responses from the Naughty Dog developer seem to suggest that its not the game, but everyone's console that has the problem. This is seriously disappointing.

I threw mine in last night and was able to play it. I believe I died at the same spot you did (trying to go around the fire in the beginning?) and I did not get another loading % screen after that. I was just right back into the game. So far that first loading % screen was the only one i've seen. It did take several minutes to complete though.

I did notice a few minor graphical errors in the beginning cutscene. Small amounts of reds that were off. I don't know if it was the game or the TV I was using. That was the only spot I noticed them though.

Other than that, the game is playing just fine for me, and i'm seriously enthralled with it. Hopefully you get your issues resolved Jay.

I did a random impulse buy on this. Naughty Dog has a good track record in my book despite me normally not being into these kind of games. Hopefully it works.

Yeah I'm curious to see what people say about it compared to Uncharted. I'm not an Uncharted fan, but watching my roommate playing some of this, it looks like what RE should have become or something.

For the record I hope this is the LAST of apocalyptic zombies though, good lord talk about overkill in the last few years. So sick of it, lol.

So is it necessary to be online the first time you play for an update? I kind of want to play not connected with the issues I'm hearing about.

I doubt it, dying light, Ninja Gaiden Z, plants vs zombies: garden warfare, the DLC for the walking dead (400 days) shows that the zombie apocaliptic games are far from over... and i love it

Exchanged my game today and the new disc had no wavy lines at all, got my hopes up that it would work correctly. I also took apart my ps3 (fat model BTW) to clean it out and apply new thermal paste, in hopes of getting the game play. The same long ass initial load times existed, I put the disc in at 12:50, and didnt see the first cut scene until 1:10. After it was playing, it seemed ok, glitched a tiny bit here and there. I died again, got stuck on a wall and attacked, and the reload of the section took another 5 minutes. Finally got past the part I made it to last night, and it went to load a cutscene, went to a blank screen with the sounds playing, and about a minute later it loaded.

When I finally made it out of the prologue I saved, and reloaded the game to see how it would react, and it still takes FOREVER to get into the game. This thing makes the Neo Geo CD look like a jet plane! I guess it might still be playable, but I will have to wait till my Wife gets home later to play it more, I cant play this one without her watching.

Edit:
So I finally got to play it for a while tonight, and if you look past the myriad of technical issues, the game is awesome. Thats the problem though, the technical issues are so bad, they completely take me out of the experience. The tedious load times are still here (though its only on the initial loading of the game, it you never see a load screen after that it seems) Graphical glitches are everywhere, and one cut scene the audio got like 2 seconds out of sync. I am honestly going to finish the game and immediately sell it to get as much as I can back, I cant see wanting to sit through all this crap for another playthrough.

As for the game its self, I have to say, the AI is some of the dumbest I have seen in a long time. When your stealth kills go wrong and you get spotted, the guys dont chase you (talking about the humans) run behind some crates and they will go into the equivalent of a Caution status in MGS, and you can just take them out again with the stealth kills. The clickers on the other hand, are ruthless, you have zero room for error when dealing with these guys, and the game seems to like to throw out 4 or more at a time.

So it would be a great game, but the issues I am having are making it more frustrating than anything, the whole time I am playing, I am hoping it doesnt freeze, or that it loads the level properly.
