New (last?) Umihara Kawase game coming to the 3DS in Japan the end of this month. I don't know when this was announced, but it was probably a while ago. I didn't see anything about it in searching the forums.
I've been wanting to pick up the remakes on the DS, but it's pretty cool that they're making a new entry into the series. Fat chance this sees a Western release, I'd imagine. 3DS might be worth a purchase in the future, though. (Are they region free?)
the 3DS is 100% region locked. You cant even download digital games from another region. The only way to play this would be to buy a Japanese 3DS and the game.
It's a funky arcade style platformer (I think it's originally a Taito license) where you play as a high school girl with a fishing lure that you can stun monster fish with, or use as a sort of bungee cord to swing from ceilings, get up to high platforms, attach to conveyer belts, etc. It's a quirky game that's pretty hard to describe. I'd recommend looking up videos of Umihara Kawase for the SFC, and Umihara Kawase Shun for the Playstation to get an idea of what it's like. This new one is basically a snazzier version of those games, with new levels.
It's a funky grappling hook puzzle/platformer. There are versions on many consoles going back to the SNES. I have the DS version, which is some new levels and old ones. New game will probably be good, but I'm not buying a Japanese 3DS.

Think bionic commando, but with an rubbery bobbing fishing line instead of a sturdy bionic arm. Your goal is to get through physics-based puzzles to find an exit.
In the more recent versions, Umihara herself may be both the cutest and sexiest of any obscure vidya female. In contrast, the original version had her as a young school girl.
Agatsuma said they hoped to have an announcement about a western release at E3, but I haven't seen any news. I'm hoping it just got buried under all of the other crazy announcements.
