What's more predictable though ... making a fifth Metroid release or making a second Donkey Kong one?

I think people just like Metroid more than DK :P
I think they're doing it because it's something a little different for Donkey Kong, he's going to a new island, it's entirely new enemies, and it really just looks like: hey let's make the best DKC game. At least intention wise, I get it.

Do I wish Retro was doing something really different
like a F-Zero RPG? Well sure. But DKCR came out three years ago, it still doesn't feel like a really long time, but it really did come out a long time ago. The 3DS game, I think, is maybe to drum up awareness for DKC and get people interested again by the time this one comes out. Maybe for us, as gamers in the know, we would have been more surprised if that 3DS version had not been so talked about and just released.
I think once these slate of games come through,
we could see something entirely new. Nintendo does seem to be paying attention more often now and on facebook I think they had this pole of what kind of Mario game do you want them to announce and the unequivocal response was something entirely new. The next closest one was Galaxy 3 or a Universe kind of thing ... and it wasn't even close. So, maybe they know. Maybe they are focusing on just ... getting some games out to push the system so other developers will support it more and they can focus on something that's currently on the back burner.
Keep in mind Super Mario 3D World could not have possible been in development
as long as a traditional Mario 3D title. They didn't start working on it until 3D Land was out ... and that came out in 2011. That, to me, smells like a dual team kind of schedule working on Mario, and maybe they've been working on it since Galaxy 2 came out, possibly. Three to Five years dev time sounds about right for the main HUGE entries into their pillar franchises.
You can call me crazy, or a fan, or a whatever ...
but I think Nintendo understands that ... the year consoles come out isn't the year you have to worry about them as a competitor, hype will sell those consoles no matter what to the people who care ... it's the year AFTER they come out that you have to be concerned, because that's when everyone else will start to look at them. So, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they have their eye on. I could see a drop of X, Mario, Yoshi's Yarn and Smash Bros all at once Holiday 2014.

you can still hit them up on sunday from 1-5PM

Also in response to crono, that is what I have been saying all along. Nintendo's track record has always been that, after about a year... a year and a half, things truly blow up. It was that was for the DS, the 3DS, and now the WiiU.

Also, for the Metroid Prime people craving a new one. It is never going to happen. You will see a metroid game one day, but it will never be Prime.

And yes....FZero RPG? Having a campaign storymode with each racer? Yes please!

From the perspective of someone who doesn't have a Wii U, I hope some of this advice is helpful for anyone who is on the fence or has a Wii-U and is somewhat concerned about its future success.

Having a Wii-U will be an incredible time. I won't restate what BogusMeatFactory has already eloquently described. I went in not quite sure what to expect, and having zero experience with the Wii-U in person. I hadn't even tried the demo kiosks this past year.

The Wii-U has a lot to look forward to. The way these games look, is extremely polished. All demos ran in 60FPS. All the controls to these games, felt extremely polished. You're going to get some very high quality games in the future. I had a blast, even if the wait was quite long because everyone wanted to demo Wind Waker HD (I'm kind of puzzled as to why it was so popular, compared to the new titles).

My only criticism was not even related to the Wii-U, but the way Best Buy handled the demo station. I guess I was expecting an area devoted to the Wii-U alone. Instead (at least at our store)0 you had an area that was regular aisle-space, bottlenecked so that observers even had a hard time getting to see what was showcased. It might be store-specific, but I think it could have been improved. Maybe two Wii-U kiosks? A better way to observe? A demo station running trailers?

That being said, the swag was worth it too!

The lines were atrocious. If they are demoing FOUR games there should be FOUR demo stations. But they didn't even try to set up anything special for the event. Just ONE TV? Seriously?

Maybe next year it'll be better.

Definitely a lot to look forward to on the Wii U. I am pretty excited for Super Mario 3D World. Multi player is gonna be a blast. Obviously Kart will be fun. Wind Waker HD will be my first time playing a console LoZ game. WW has always been the one I wanted to try because I love the style. And DK? Well, I am not sure I will buy it, but it'll be a great game, for sure.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! Now I'm really bummed out I didn't go.
That's exactly what I need to motivate me to purchase it. The only thing that kept me from buying more games for the regular Wii was the controller. I hated it... Several games required me to flick it around while I was just wanting to play the game. It really takes me out of the experience when I have jolt my hands up and down to make a character jump. Have they improved upon that? Can I opt in to just use the controller as a controller on most of these upcoming games?

I really like swag too... :(
(I'm going to try my best to go on the 15th)

I went to the Nintendo thing at Bestbuy only to find out my Bestbuy was dropped yesterday. So double check before you head out. A buddy of mine hit one up and he said you got 6 minutes of play time and a two hour wait.

that is why you HAVE to come early. Out Best Buy was very disorganized. There was no line and it was a clusterbleep. If you get there about a half hour early, you will be front of the line, signed up to play something. Yes it is short, roughly a level in MarioLand, or a track in MarioKart. Those times are short, yes, but getting that experience, to have the WiiU in your hands is a very shocking and jarring experience, showing just how much fun the system can be. Having the pad also makes it easier for those that don't like the waggle controls involved with the wii remotes.

No waggling on the pad for MarioLand!

If you are using the wii remote....get ready to shake though. Shake is ground pound and aerial claw slash.
