Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?

Here's an opinion that I'm sure is going to be pretty unpopular:

Super Metroid, so far, is just 'meh'.

Granted I just started playing the game a few days ago. And I never played it when it originally came out (1994?)....so I don't have that 'nostalgic' factor playing into it (which is important for me in a lot of my NES/SNES/Genesis games). So maybe I am holding it to an unfair higher standard? My brother loves it, my best friend loves it (he said it's one of the all-time greats), and really I haven't heard a bad thing about it AT ALL.

Maybe I put unfair expectations on the game? I played the original one for NES and it was ok. I'm just not a huge Metroid fan I guess.

Like I said though I just started my playthrough, so I'm hoping it gets better. And I'm not saying it's a HORRIBLE game by any means. It's just that, so far, it's not this EPIC game I was expecting (and hoping).

I can relate. I finally tried Zelda: Link To The Past not long ago and while I can definitely see why it's so revered, I personally wasn't as impressed as I thought I'd be. Oh well.

No offense to you of course mate, but I clearly remember a couple of years ago we had an asshole who actually made a thread about this. We are all trying to spread the wonders of retro gaming and older classics, and here was this asshole wanting to keep all the games to himself so he could price gouge people on ebay.

I've seen other people like that. To them collecting is an investment and not a hobby so when a game is re-released they get pissy that their investment is being devalued.

Also some people just really like feeling elitist about owning a game that's not readily available to the masses.

To me it's pretty dumb. I got into an argument similar to this with people over Pier Solar. When they started looking into releasing it on other platforms people got angry about it no longer being a Genesis/Mega Drive exclusive and that people should just go buy a Genesis if they want to play it.

I can totally understand being proud of a particularly rare game in your collection. I am with a few games of mine, and I do the same thing with comics (I've got a few hanging on my game-room wall, displayed).

However to get pissed that it gets re-released is just selfish. Why wouldn't you want to have other people enjoy that great game?

And do re-releases really devalue games that much, anyways? I mean look at Chrono Trigger or Super Mario RPG for example, they've been re-released via Wii Virtual Console and on DS (in Chrono Trigger's case); yet the original SNES cartridges still go for an arm and a leg.

Actually, yes. Chrono Trigger before the release of the DS port went typically for a little over $50 but dipped down to the upper $30s and didn't cross the $50 threshold for more than a year, and then only briefly. Super Mario RPG went from drawing prices at over $40 to as low as $27 once the Virtual Console port was released. Both games have since had an upswing in price, but as a part of the large increase of SNES games as a whole. The ports did lead to the original hardware lessening in value, albeit until other factors contributed to price increases.

Anyway I hardly feel bad for speculators. Buying something to sell it at a profit further down the line, without doing anything to add any value to it yourself, is a poor choice and probably hurts the economy in the long run (talking about houses here, not video games )

Mostly insulting. I don't see why people need other people to respect their hobby. If games are considered art or not, it will make no difference in how I play or enjoy them, so who cares?
I just consider it another label that people take way to seriously. I don't see a point in arguing whether they are or aren't art, i just consider them video games. Ya' know?
