I've heard from a few sources that this is thee best SHMUP available on the Dreamcast
can anyone back this up? and is it worth the high price it goes for now-a-days?

I actually bought one for $35 last year on ebay if you can believe it.
I will say it is one of the best hori shmups out there.

Well, it's G.Rev shoot 'em up. That's qualifications enough, isn't it? 
Play the game and decide yourself. It's a neat hori with no lives, just levels of difficulty. Each level has three variations, and what version you get to play depends on if you started on easy (green) or if you die in a level, the difficulty bumps up. If you start on the hardest difficulty, you can't die without losing.

well, its one of the best, i think Under Defeat is the best, but its really a matter of taste,

For whatever reason, I've always seemed to confuse Border Down and Under Defeat. I've played UD, but for some reason, whenever I read someone talking about Border Down, I think "Oh, I've played that."
The best shmup? Ikaruga, man. That's elementary. But, so I can definitely back up that statement, I'll be snagging an ISO tonight, and giving the statement you've heard a run for its money.

After Under Defeat and Ikaruga, Border Down is my favorite. I just really dug the visuals, the difficulty/lives system, and the energy beam struggles.

Yeah, they are all great, and have good cases to be crowned 'Best DC Shooter' - my vote goes with MARS MATRIX
