woah dude that's scary!dsheinem wrote:Had a wonderful and much needed three hour nap today
I needed it because of a half an hour long airsoft pistol fight with an ornery and agitated six+ foot long black rat snake in my living room/dining room at 2am last night. Seriously. Epic battle, blood on the walls, lunging and hissing, a brilliant fucking headshot, the whole bit. Intense. I carried his corpse in a pizza box to the ditch behind the house.
I don't like killing anything (even snakes). There were no other good options though, as he'd already spooked the dogs and I don't want my wife and three year old to walk around the house in constant fear (which they would), nor do I want any of our regular guests to have an encounter with him. I'd tried everything I could to get him outside/keep him outside before when I've found him in the basement or elsewhere near the house, but slithering through the living room while the dog was sleeping and I was grabbing a midnight snack was a bridge too far.

Couldn't corral em in a box or trash can and drop em off a few miles away?dsheinem wrote:I'd tried everything I could to get him outside/keep him outside before when I've found him in the basement or elsewhere near the house, but slithering through the living room while the dog was sleeping and I was grabbing a midnight snack was a bridge too far.

That's what I tried first - I had a garden shovel and a large trash can (these snakes are looong and python-esque) that I tried to corral him into when I saw him slithering along the wall. As soon as I got near him with it to put it in front of him he slinked back into a corner near my stereo and coiled himself up to strike. When I started trying to pull him out with the shovel he started lunging at the handle - to the point where I was afraid if I got much closer he could have had me pretty easily (they are fast and lunge pretty far). They aren't venemous, but it is still some scary shit.Hobie-wan wrote:Couldn't corral em in a box or trash can and drop em off a few miles away?dsheinem wrote:I'd tried everything I could to get him outside/keep him outside before when I've found him in the basement or elsewhere near the house, but slithering through the living room while the dog was sleeping and I was grabbing a midnight snack was a bridge too far.
Like I said, I hate killing anything. A year or two ago another one of these snakes got tangled up in some of the netting on a blueberry bush and I was able to hold it on the "neck" behind the eyes and use scissors to cut it out, save it, and let it go on its way. Otherwise it would have died there in that netting as it was severely stuck in multiple places. I'd much rather have not had to kill it, but when it is violent in my house, the game has changed.

Damn and I thought I had crazy animal encounters out here in the woods.

My wife and I went on a walk last night, and a frog jumped on, then off her sandals!BoneSnapDeez wrote:Damn and I thought I had crazy animal encounters out here in the woods.
BEAT THAT!
That's a true story, but in all honesty my college roommate and I kept a "pet" Black Widow who lived on the back of our L-shaped couch for months.

That's horrid. Why wouldn't you kill something that you know is so venomous?Luke wrote:That's a true story, but in all honesty my college roommate and I kept a "pet" Black Widow who lived on the back of our L-shaped couch for months.

@Bone
Sweet deal man. I hope you like it and it works out for you.
There's no escaping the fact I'm just plain lazy and hate working. Regular jobs make me stressed out and irritable. Staying at home, cleaning, cooking, etc is definitely more my deal. When I was younger, I'd spend entire summers locked up in my room, and nothing has really changed. I don't go stir crazy like a lot of people do and feel no need to "go out and get some sun". I understand I'll have to stat doing the park stuff with my daughter, but I'm okay with that.
Nearly got into a wreck tonight. On the way to work an idiot ran a red light (which happens frequently at that time of night). We both went swerving around each other and luckily nobody hit anything. I never lay on my horn, but you can bet I did this time. I'm surprised that we were both able to drive off from that one...
Excited about all these new games coming out. I need to hurry up and get through some of my backlog before it starts getting unmanageable.

Smile: Had a good visit with Dad yesterday. Picked up 3 Xbox games at Gamestop (which Dad paid for as a "Happy Late Birthday)- Batman Arkham Asylum (GOTY), Ghostbusters, and Duke Nukem Forever. Duke Nukem was only four bucks! I guess they're overstocked or something. I'm glad I was able to take advantage of that. Also, I was able to pick up the final volume of Tiny Toon Adventures, so now I have the whole series. It feels good to complete a set, doesn't it?
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.
