I'm sorry, I mean no disrespect but you got to be a complete idiot to pre-order an Xbox One or ignorant. It's the most anti-gamer console if that is even possible to call a gaming console anti-gamer. It's people like you that contribute to the problem and make companies believe that this is OK to do this to gamers, to put so many restrictions. It's not about being a fanboy, it's about enjoying are gaming years down the road and being able to play them. Well, if you do....enjoy your $500 brick and library of paperweights because that is going to happen when Microsoft never longer supports them. Remember, even Microsoft themselves said that only 8% of gamers play last gen games. Where they got this information I do not know. This tells me that they WILL cut the servers and you will never be able to play your games again. Ever! This happened to another game, Chromehounds. Great game but you cant play it, nobody can play it. Xbox 360 shut down the servers and the game is now a paperweight, literally. Remember this because the Xbox One games come from the cloud servers, the disc and product key are just a means to access your game and install it since it's mandatory. You do not own your games, you are just merely renting them. Don't be the problem. Your money speaks louder than words and companies know that.

Not to try and make a conversation about this, but it hardly makes a person an "idiot" to want to buy the console. If Lost_Within (or anyone) wants to spend their money on this, it's their business. I find it hard to believe that he hasn't been following the E3 coverage if he's pre-ordering two of them. I'd have to assume he knows what he's getting into.

Sega closed the Chromehounds servers, and it's still available in offline mode.

It's pretty much a given that online services will eventually be shut down. 10 years from now i'll be shocked if every (or any, really) PS3/360/Wii hosted online title will still have online capability. Also by that time, if you lose any of your downloaded games, odds are they won't be hosted for download anymore. With the information that they've put out so far, one could only assume that the disc-based media will still be playable after the support for the system is through (as long as you have it installed). You just won't be able to play it online (even though you couldn't anyway, as the servers would be down).

A lot of people don't play games from previous generations. A lot of people don't care about physical copies or DRM. And a lot of games that are coming out (especially for Microsoft) are tailored for online play and are only relevant (and hold value) as long as their online community is popular. If you're into Sports/Shooters - what does it matter if you can't play them in 10 years? How many people still play CoD and Madden games online for the PS2? How much fun are you going to have with those that far out?

It's nice to have them supported. I'm amazed at how much support some companies like Blizzard put into hosting their games so far after their lifecycle. But i'd have to imagine it's nearly impossible to maintain.

If you want to make the argument of "don't support future paperweights" then you kind of have to be against buying anything digital. And if you're going to use Chromehounds as an example. Then you kind of have to be against anything boasting an online experience. Which is basically everything at the moment.


There are plenty of reasons to dislike the Xbox One. But please choose better ones, and don't tell people they're "idiots" or "morons" for disagreeing.

^I can appreciate most of your points, but I want to point out that if players are allowed to host their own servers, or the game is peer to peer, online play could last a very long time. Many companies don't choose to make those an option though.

I almost never pre-order, but I was an early PS3 adopter. I "waited in line" on launch night. (by waiting in line, I mean I showed up at Wal-Mart, because all the game stores were closed, and asked to buy one. The employee said "It's not out yet". I had to convince him that it was past midnight, and that they should take my money. So he went to the back and grabbed one...)

This year, I'm getting the Wii-U, 3DS XL, and PS4. That added to the RetroN 5 and other consoles I've been buying is starting to add up. This is the most consoles I've ever bought in a single year. We're also working on building a new PC. I would never drop that much money all at once though... especially on new consoles. Just seems silly to me.

This is me. Right now I have both preordered "despite" being well informed about both. I don't care for the xbox one draconian DRM, but I do want to play its games. I don't care that much that I might not be able to down the road...though I believe a hack/modchip/something will enable me to do just that in time. I know what I'm getting into, but when I'm comboing Cinder, shooting in all directions from my crimson dragon, or watching Master Chief make sweet digital love to Cortana, I will be having too much fun to give a shit about DRM or selling/playing the game down the road.

The REAL problem is gamers attacking one another over purchase decisions. FFS, people, why must there be so many haters even on a friendly forum like this?
