That really is great news. From November last year to this last March, I worked in a poor town in the southern coast of the state I live in. There, there still were quite a few places that rented PS2s to play by hour. Kids mostly played soccer games, so I'm happy that they're making FIFA 14 available yet again for them.
More than likely I won't play it (I do play a lot of FIFA 13 on Origin, though), but I'm glad that it is happening, at least.
Makes a lot of sense. PS2 is really popular in developing countries. When I was in North Africa it was the must have console even though PS3 had been released there. I believe it's big in Brazil right now as well. Most of those developing countries are big on soccer so no surprise if they keep making Fifa on PS2 for the next few years.
Is PS2 now officially the longest surviving console? I know there were 2600 games that were released in 1990, some maybe even later than that. Neo Geo AES games were still being made up to 2003 atleast (Metal Slug 5, KOF 2003). 2600=1977 AES=1990 PS2=2000, so PS1 wins by a year. NES/Famicom, C64, PS1, SMS (Brazil) and Gameboy must've all survived 10+ years too.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box
Shit I'm down, it would be awesome to get a new PS2 game so far down the line. Soccer games are fun and the game should be pretty polished, sweet stuff.
If you can see the future while remembering the past, you may just have control of the present.
