I did say "established popular franchises" but left it open to interpretation for a reason.

I wasn't criticizing you if that's what you were thinking.

Just venting my frustration...

Ack wrote:So then:

STRENGTHS:

Established popular franchises
Blu-Ray player
8Gb DDR3 SDRAM
4k resolution
7.1 surround sound
500 Gb harddrive
HDMI 1.4 output and input
Comes standard with Kinect
redesigned controller
includes DVR
voice control
SmartGlass enables second screen technology
media interconnectivity, such as Skype, Internet Explorer, Netflix, etc.
uses lighting system to show console's status, similar to Xbox 360 (though not a ring this time)
Up to 10 people designated as family can access an account's game collection.

WEAKNESSES:

$500
Kinect is always on and may track our vitals, what we watch, what we say for targeted advertising
Kinect's microphone is always active, even when the console is in sleep mode, causing concern of audio surveillance
May become extreme in enforcement of digital rights by shutting off when too many people watch a film, show, etc.
Requires constant internet connectivity and verification of games every 24 hours
Assignment of games to accounts. Only "participating retailers" can sell used games.
Playing on a different account and Xbox One console will require paying a fee
No composite or component video connections
Harddrive cannot be removed
No backwards compability
Games can be given away, but only to people who have been on your friends list for more than 30 days, and only once
Xbox One will not function without the Kinect attached
Few games are currently known to even use the Kinect.

OPPORTUNITIES:

Improved technology utilizing the Kinect may lead to games able to adapting to a player's current physical condition
The Kinect could one day potentially work alongside something like the Oculus Rift for a more immersive experience

THREATS:

Rival competitors in Sony and Nintendo
Upset fanbase over issues concerning the use of games and privacy concerns
Angry retailers over strict limits on the ability to resell games

Nice post man, but you should add that Netflix and etc. will only work on a paid for GOLD account unlike Sony where it just works (after paying for Netflix). I think you should list it as a weakness actually.

After the big presser I can comfortably say two things:

I want an XBONE, and I don't want an XBONE.

The game selection is looking damn solid, but the failure on Microsoft's part to actually come forward and address the issues firsthand is disenchanting. This is the biggest public event of the year for this industry. Not to mention live coverage on a major cable network meant they could have permanently put all the rumors and speculation firmly to rest. By just telling us what the situation is on privacy and rights of ownership they could have solidified their position in the next generation, and at least shown us what we're really going to get.

EDIT!: Also, the new 360 re-design is something that I can't help but slightly like. It brings back some of the curves from the original 360, and also feels like what I would have liked the One to appeared as.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS

I don't really feel we got anything new from this other than the price. The announced games sound exactly like what you would get on the 360 (I am not saying this as something bad, you could say the exact same thing for the Wii U and the original Wii), so since Microsoft failed to convert me the previous gen (came damn close though), I don't think it will be able to this gen, with its shitty DRM thing and no games I'm interested in.

Was anyone really surprised with anything other than the new Killer Instinct and Panzer Dragoon?

I'm going to check which games are available at launch now. Didn't see most of the conference cuz Apple's conference started 30 min after.

$500 price tag though. More than I am likely to want to spend on this console. Hopefully the PS4 comes in a $400. Otherwise I may even wait on that one as well. Not that I'm any stranger to spending. But the WiiU will have some good games by then, and I have been mainly using my portables anyway.

I'm just going off your post, so pardon any wonky bits.

This won't be for game resolution unless they allow it for 2D things. It will be for menus and disc viewing mostly I imagine. I wonder how many think 3D games will use this?

WEAKNESSES:

Yes I know most people will likely have an HDMI capable TV that are interested, but wow. No Composite? That's really dumb IMHO, getting rid of the easy always compatible option. That further screws up being semi-portable.

EB Games Australia just put their placeholder prices at $899AUD, which is $850USD. Same for the PS4, where the hell do they get these crazy prices from.

About 3 times the price of a Basic Wii U.
