What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Smile: Had a nice breeze last night so I took advantage of the weather and mowed the yard. Damned dandelions are relentless.
Probably will goof off a bit today and try to wrap up beating a few games. I kind of hit a gaming wall the past few days, but I shall overcome!
Bonus Smile: KitKat has been super helpful in finding a corset for the missus.
Frown: I may have already mentioned this.
My amicable parents wanted to commission a local artist to paint a portrait of my wife and I. I went to high school with the artist, even played football and played in band with the guy. He married his highschool sweetheart, and now they are divorced as she was banging her boss, and apparently he has a thing for kids.
Not one to immediately judge the guy, I spoke with a few highschool cronies and they all said the same thing, "He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, but there are some skeletons in the closet".
I hate not giving someone the benefit of doubt, but the portrait would only make me wonder if the dude is a pedophile every time I looked at it. Gross.
Eh: Not going to buy another tux after all. Outside, good chance of rain, 90 degrees, near a barn, and a bon fire later that night? Screw that. That's asking for a tux to get ruined. And who am I kidding? I don't need two tuxedos.

It could just be a rumor with no truth behind it, but assuming it's not, it's only a problem if he acts on it. If he never acts on it and keeps it to himself, why should it matter? These people need psychiatric help, but if they're afraid to tell anyone for fear of being locked up, even if they have no intention of doing harm to anyone (which, let's face it, is a very real possibility), then they won't get the help they need. This needs to change, but sadly, I doubt it ever will.Luke wrote:I hate not giving someone the benefit of doubt, but the portrait would only make me wonder if the dude is a pedophile every time I looked at it.

He and his once wife were highschool sweethearts that shared pretty much their "first" everything. From first to home. They married shortly after graduating, and both became teachers at their alma matter. Seemed like the perfect couple.
Soon after his wife became the assistant principal, he was fired for inappropriate behavior. After the divorce it was revealed that his wife, now assistant principal, was sleeping with her boss. Apparently things weren't, ahem, getting done at home.
I learned about this entire debacle through my bff from middle school, whose Father is the pastor of the largest church in that town. Guy knows pretty much about everyone in that small town.
Not to cast stones, I called a few of my ol' pals to ask if they knew the straight dope. The consensus was that although the artist is a super nice guy, it's not just rumors floating around.
Reminds me of my Senior year in highschool when a bunch of girls were crushing on a Junior names Seth Grey. That lasted for a while until everyone learned the JV QB raped a retarded girl that he babysat (and was only sentenced parole for a few years). No s#!t, some girls still sought the guy out.
In both of these cases the guys came from old money, and both were/are good looking fellas. Hard to shame a family name in little Lenoir NC.
One more example: George Bernhardt III (of Bernhardt furniture) was a buddy of mine who I stopped keeping in touch with. Guy was hilarious but always a bit weird. He became a Pastor for a Presbyterian church, but while preaching abstinence, guy was sleeping with anyone including guys. He impregnated one of his girlfriends, and rushed to get married before someone spilled the beans. He got married, his wife had a miscarriage, the congregation found out about his past, fired him, and then he got a divorce and joined the Air Force.
Crazy stuff goes on everywhere, but in a small town everyone seems to know about every one's dirty secrets.

Holy shit a RetroDude post I actually strongly agree with.Retrodude wrote:It could just be a rumor with no truth behind it, but assuming it's not, it's only a problem if he acts on it. Luke, that whole thing is... yeesh.
We had a guy get arrested from our school this year. The junior high has a Valentine's dance, and it turns out he raped his own sister in the bathroom after the Valentine's dance. It was a shock, and one of the weirdest things I've ever been around.
But I can't understand anyone who's okay with rape, like those girls that continued to go after that guy. After something like that, around my area, the guy probably would've been found dead.
EDIT: I guess I could try the being happy thing, but that would probably piss me off.

That was everybody's reaction, and it came out of nowhere. It was pretty well accepted the guy was a bit different but that, gaaah. He's really lucky they locked him up honestly.AppleQueso wrote:Uhm... wow what the fuck.Forlorn Drifter wrote: We had a guy get arrested from our school this year. No, I don't think I go to the same school as Megas.
However, the whole thing was still a shock. It was disturbing.
And you guys expect me to be upbeat and happy.

Well, to be fair, it wasn't your sister, and it doesn't sound like either him or his sister were your friends. So it's fucked up, but you shouldn't let it totally bum you out.Forlorn Drifter wrote:And you guys expect me to be upbeat and happy.
