Had a little trouble with Death and then a little more with Dracula. Two toughest parts of the game, IMO.
Still, CV4 is insanely easier than other CV games. Death in particular is a joke, the hardest part is when he pulls you in and you have to jump over the sickle. And even that isn't too hard. Dracula is really easy to get the patterns down and avoid taking damage, compared to fighting him in other games. And his last "form" is just too easy. Death and Dracula in CV1 (without holy water) and in CV3 are much harder to beat.

Did you use the secret power up thing before fighting Dracula?

Yeah I think I just got too excited to finally be near the end and the heart is racing and all that jazz. Unnecessary stress, really. Death was giving me fits until I got his pattern down and I just got to the very left of the screen (between the edge of the screen and that platform) and whipped up. Then when he lowered down to do his scythe throw, I just went to town on him.

Dracula's second phase (I think) was the hardest. The one where the flames follow you and come down at an angle. I was always in the wrong place and the wrong time. Got frustrating a few times. And yes, definitely used the secret power up area before the fight.

Feels good to finally beat this gem of a game. I had it growing up, but I never did beat it. I think I played it for awhile and just moved onto something else. My dedication to finishing games growing up wasn't as nearly as devout as it is now.

Just like Dracula every 100 years.......I'm back!

*ahem*

So yeah, been out of the RB scene a bit, but hell am I stoked this thread is still somewhat active!
Now let me get a few things off my chest:

LoS2 - Can't wait, but actually glad it's ending as a trilogy set in a non-canonical universe. (I think of it like Marvel's "Ultimate" series of spinoffs.)

Mirror of Fate - My feelings of this game, if mapped out on a chart, would resemble a Medusa's sine wave pattern. Lots of highs and lows.

LoS getting a 'Complete Edition' release on PC -

You forgot about "the struggle" of how hard Death is in Castlevania II, as shown here:

LOL.

I watched that video to the end. I know he's just trying to be funny and whatnot, but in trying to make CV3 sound more frustrating than it really is he had some false info. He said when you die against Dracula it starts you all the way at the beginning of the level instead of at the staircase like every other CV game. This is just untrue. He was also bitching about Drac's first form and how it's impossible to not get hit. Again, I know he's just trying to be funny, but it's like... not impossible, your method just sucks.

I never did finish CV3 but I loved it. Need to get back to it one of these days.

same here. CV3 is so awesome. I love that one.

This thread always makes me happy when it gets bumped and then reminds me how much Castlevania stuff I'm missing.

Man, I'd kill for a compilation of the NES/MSX/GB etc games - something like the recent Kirby's Dream Collection y'know? With bundled soundtrack!

Oh and that reminds me I still need to download Adventure Rebirth - is that one Wii exclusive? Oh man, AND I still need to download that multiplayer one on XBLA.

Oh, and although I'm not much of a NES collector, if anyone has a box/manual for CV2 I wouldn't mind seeing my (wife's) copy complete.

And finally, there's seems to be a bunch of various bootleg CV soundtracks on eBay. Anyone have any of them and can vouch for quality? I don't mind that they're bootlegs so long as they look nice.

Yeah, AFAIK Adventure Rebirth is only on Wii.

 - There's a multi-player CV on XBLA? That's what I get for not having a Live account.
