Arc the lad collection worth it?

Post by Menegrothx »

I just resumed my Arc 3 save and I'm about halfway through the game. I'm wondering if it's worth getting the collection? I'm playing it on PSP at the moment. I have no experience from Arc 1 or 2.

Being a tactical RPG, I was excpecting more depth from the gameplay (especially after just playing The Temple of Elemental Evil). There's nothing special about the game as far as all the quests or writing&plot go, but yet I find it oddly compelling. I like the the humorous nature of the game and the game world is quite nice (Gislem is my favorite place thus far). I'm not that familiar with Working Designs products yet, but I think it's safe to say that the Working Designs touch shows on many of the characters in this game. Nothing special, but yet most of them have enough of charm and personality to keep dialogue intresting rather than a chore.

In other words my experience with the series so far is that it's kinda lackluster, yet I keep on playing. Not sure if it can hold my attention if I switch from PSP to PS1 though. Any comments from people who own the collection/have played all the games?
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I have very little interest in the games, but I've often considered picking up the PS1 collection anyway because of how beautiful Working Designs' packaging/extras are. If you have even minimal interest in the games/series, it's a no-brainer.

Based on this, I'd say no. There's probably not much wiggle room between you playing the games and you losing all interest.

YES.

The first game is only about 10 hours long, or maybe up to 20 if you do absolutely everything. But it's just a prelude to 2, which is an easy 60+ or so, you get the entire cast back from the first game, the story is great, awesome music/gameplay, you can actually walk around in towns/dungeons (rare for an SRPG). It was really fun.

I didn't like Arc 3, only got 10 hours in or something and was utterly bored with how the story progressed (take up job... story... take up job... rinse and repeat). The graphics style, characters, boring story, everything is stand alone from the first two. Definitely don't pass those up because of 3.
