Here's a site to check what shows might be in your area:

They aren't all encompassing, but as far as I'm aware there's not really anything else out there for this sort of thing.

Chaos in Tejas looks like it had a pretty decent lineup this year. Mannila Road, Benediction, Bolt Thrower, etc. I might keep an eye on them next year and try to go if I see things I like.

You complain about where you live even though you're close enough to San Antonio to call it 'local.' :P

For me it's:
2 hours to get to Fort Worth
2 1/2 hours to get to Lubbock
3 3/4 hours to get to Austin
4 hours to get to San Antonio
6 hours to get to Houston

All Abilene has in terms of local bands is Pantera wannabes and really shitty deathcore.

excellent for the period (1987-88, i believe), every track is a total ripper with amazing guitar work and superb leads. great vocal performance also. here's a YT playlist of the entire record for your listening pleasure.

Pfaaaa what a coincidence! I've been listening to that Realm album the past several days myself, it's damn good.

I just nabbed a copy of that on vinyl off of ebay like two days ago.

Decent album.

Trying to listen to it right now but my father is blasting Godsmack over much more powerful speakers. *shudder*

A friend of mine and I started talking about thrash bands, and he ended up giving me a ton of recommendations, so I've been going through a bunch of stuff lately. Realm was one of the bands I was listening to, along with Forbidden, Obliveon, Artillery, etc, a bunch of stuff. Still going through a lot of it, but so far a couple of my favorites have been:

You might also like Wolf Spider, Toxik, Target, Paralysis, Immaculate, Donor, and Watchtower. All are technical thrash bands with higher pitched singing.
