It's a very lucrative opportunity. I managed to get it *twice*. Cotton 1 is useful for it, because her sub shot goes above the head and shoots those coming down on you. It's easier to do in Stage 2; it's just a matter of positioning yourself away from them as they fall, and they don't bounce off the ground. NOTE: You CAN shoot them and still get the bonus, just make sure you don't accidentally collect any.

In Stage 1, it's 100K plus extra point bubbles appear, 2000 pts each.

In Stage 2, it's 150K and extra point bubbles appear for 4000 pts each.

Thus, my new score was assisted by these bonuses. It's a good thing, because my hit count was pretty sad because I didn't use Needle, who can chain hits while holding the enemy in hand. The Cotton(s) just seem to shoot the enemy up and off the screen, and that means the hit counter starts again.

ExedExes - 2,083,500 - Stage 4 - 39 Chain / 23 Hit - Cotton 1/Cotton 2/Cotton 3 - MAME

Finally, score update -

rufus777 - 5,702,500 - Stage 6 - 132 Chain / 99 Hit - Cotton 1/Appli 1/Silk - Saturn
mjmjr25 - 2,192,600 - Stage 3 - 38 Chain / 300 Hit - Needle/Cotton 1/Cotton 3 - Saturn
ExedExes - 2,083,500 - Stage 4 - 39 Chain / 23 Hit - Cotton 1/Cotton 2/Cotton 3 - MAME
DocHauser- 2,054,800 - Stage 3 - 50 Chain / 193 Hit - Cotton 3/Appli 2/Appli 3 - Shmupmame 2.2
pierrot - 1,901,600 - Stage 3 (boss) - 74 Chain / 145 Hit - Appli 1/Appli 3/Silk - Saturn
noiseredux - 876,000 - Stage 3 - chain? - Needle/Appli 3/? - Saturn

What strategy are y'all employing on 3rd boss? I'm dying twice on him...

That doesn't stop the tentacles though, right? I don't have a problem w/his first wave, it's when the tentacles come out and force me to the top just above him, can't cancel bullets from there either...

For me, it's exactly what rufus said. The toughest part by far is going to be the tentacles. A sweeping crescent motion from the top to the bottom works great, because only the lighted tips can kill you, and you can pass through the rest of them safely. Don't forget you can also cancel the small round shots, not sure about the big round pink shots, but you can NOT cancel the long yellow trailing shots that they start using later on. Offensively, the charge shot should be used as often and as safely as possible, and make sure to have whoever is powered up the most fighting at all times.

Played a good 45 minutes today and had a couple solid runs only to fizz out on octopus again :/

Today's improvement:
2,261,400 - mjmjr25 - Stage 3 - chain 28/Hit 481 - Needle/Cotton1/Cotton2 - SATURN/No-Autofire
Image
I'm fine with auto-fire being allowed, but it must be noted and here's why - after my 481 max hit on stage 1, my hand / arm was beat and could hardly tap anymore. Was curious what it would do if I employed the same technique on stage 1, but used autofire:

Had a 966 max hit and over 1.7 million on stage 1 alone. If yr using auto-fire you need to notate it. I suicided that run on stage 2 because personally I don't think it's very fun to play that way but each his own.

Only had time for 2 runs today - i'm liking Cotton 1 the most lately, really like her ability to chain enemies and her throw is my favorite motion. I like that Needle can shoot what he's holding and I like Silk's super-fast "HOLD A-CHARGE" shot. All 3 of those characters play so differently though - I don't like the combination, so today I just used all 3 Cottons - so close to taking down the octopus, but just couldn't. Now that I can cancel his tentacles, I find the i'm constantly tapping "B" and don't shoot - I fought him a good 2 minutes and still no go. No score improvement today but I did have 79 Chain on stage 1 - chained every enemy through the midboss - not sure how to continue it through him.
