I can't wait to see how this next generation of consoles ends up 5 years from now. All this controversy is intriguing.

I just want to see the public reaction when those newer consoles come out and the always on games of the Xbox One and other upcoming consoles gets shut down.

I wonder just how many existing DRM games now are future proofed cracked? My guess is most are not and will be lost locked to just individual Consoles, PCs or Dead Server; game footage only seen thru old YouTube videos. Oh wait, even those are not permanent. :?

As an aside, it's also widely available on PC (since it's just Outrun 2006 repackaged, right?).

That's not entirely fair though -- if you bought it during the initial availability, yes. If you want to buy it today, no. Scarcity in digital products, oh me oh my!

True, but from the Steam comparison, it's still the same. They had a kerfuffle over games like Dragon Age 2, that are no longer available for purchase on Steam, but can be downloaded still by those that purchased it before it was pulled.

I just want to reinforce that this is just essentially Xbox's version of Steam with two caveats:
1.) Microsoft is less restrictive with how you share games and re-sell games.
2.) Microsoft does not have a proven track record of years and years of games being able to be downloaded and played. Furthermore, since XBLA/360 titles are not going to work on ONE that doesn't give me warm fuzzies.

Why does the Steam comparison keep coming up? There's a huge problem with comparing this stuff to Steam, and that's the simple fact that Steam is not the only way to legally acquire games on PC.

Pretty much every game I buy from a different retailer has to be activated on Steam. Much in the way buying your Xbox One game from Best Buy or Target will still have to be activated with Microsoft.

Of course, the argument doesn't hold too much water on the basis lots of PC games still don't require Steam, and the fact that you can still play games on PC without having to use the Steam service if you're willing to put up with not having nearly as large of a library. (We also have our ways of freeing things from Steam). There's also the fact that backwards compatibility is pretty much a given on PC, so it's not like you might lose your games in 6 years.

But again, a lot of this shit still isn't 100% clear. Microsoft is intent on being at least semi-vague with all of this stuff. All I know is that it's a mess. They really dropped the ball.
