Has there ever been a console/handheld or other platform such as PC that you initially tried gaming on, but ended up hating it. Only then later to come back and decide you actually really liked it?
The first current gen console I bought was a Wii. I was really hyped up for it, played Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario among a couple others, but then I quickly lost interest. At the time there weren't any RPG's on the system (Zelda doesn't count), and I found myself getting more and more annoyed at motion controls of any kind as well as the controller's button layout.
Since then I've given my Wii away to my little sister. But now with some games like The Last Story, Arc Rise Fantasia, Xenoblade, or more unique stuff like Sin and Punishment, I have to say it looks like it has a really good quality (Albeit small) line up of games.
So I plan on buying a black one soon, especially since they're so cheap, and making sure to get a classic controller pro to use whenever possible. I'm honestly pretty excited about it.
So, you guys have any stories of giving a system a second chance?

The Wii has a good library, you should keep digging if you're into other genres.
Hm...I guess when I was younger I used to give the Gamecube and Xbox hard times. I used to not like the PSX either during the n64 days. But as an adult, I can't say I ever really counted out a console for very long.

Sometimes I get hooked on some games and another console starts collecting dust. Part of the fun rediscovering the dusty system games again later on I guess. I keep all my consoles, too much effort would be lost to start over again. Thankfully the OCD collector in me makes me keep all my systems plugged in recently played or not.
You mentioned getting a new Wii, make sure its a vertical unit. You just might need a Gamecube controller for some Wii games.

Oh yeah, I heard about that. There's also some Gamecube games I wanna try out so I'm gonna make sure to get the original model that still has backwards compatability.CRTGAMER wrote:You mentioned getting a new Wii, make sure its a vertical unit. N64.
It's still not my favorite, by any means. But I can appreciate it's exclusives more now, especially since it's a lot cheaper now than it was when it was new.
I still hate the controller. But can train myself to get used to it when it's an exclusive that's worth playing like the Zeldas, StarFox 64, Rogue Squadron, Turoks, etc.

The original Xbox. It's such a great system, sure most of the games are available on other systems but it's still fun. And modding it only makes it ten times better.

First, the Wii is great. It has developed a great library of physical releases, and I recommend diving back into it (especially since the games are so cheap at Gamestop right now).
Second...I dismissed the original Xbox. All of the shooters and sports games really turned me off. Now, I realize that the Xbox was basically the Super Dreamcast, and I actually prefer it to my Gamecube. <runs for cover>

I can't say I've ever given up on a console, so "nope".
I'll admit to having cognitive dissonance when it comes to consoles. Not a fan of buyer's remorse, so if I'm not impressed at first, I'll try a few new games before I "give up" on a system.

Maybe the Gamecube - I bought one on release day, but found few games I was interested in and wound up trading it in. Bought another one when Zelda came out and there was the free game promo.
But, that also just falls more in line with my typical process of not bothering with a console until it has enough games I want. The Gamecube was an impulse buy because I happened to be at Wal Mart that day and they them in stock.
Occasionally I will wind up getting a console and wondering why I didn't sooner, but, that's not quite the same =P

Re: Giving a system a "second chance."
This probably doesn't count but oh well I'm already typing: I got a GameCube for Christmas that honest to god would only play Super Monkey Ball. Any other game I tried would freeze about 5-10 minutes into playing it. I was only able to get past the first level of Metroid Prime once.
I went home and took it to GameStop and they told me it was past the two week return period (my mom bought it on Black Friday). Being a dumb kid I just bent over and took it, but I should have given them hell because that's pretty much complete BS.
Anyways, years later I find that the GameCube is no joke. After that debacle I just figured there was some quality games with a severe lack of quantity, but I'm realizing there are actually a ton of games I want to play on it.
Now the Wii on the other hand.......gave up on that once, bought it again and now it collects dust, although in fairness I bought it again so my girlfriend and I could play all the game show-type games on it and we broke up right before I got it for Christmas!
