Even if you did win the lottery and some how never experienced a single server drop, are you going to somehow pretend the issue doesn't exist? Turn a blind eye to the mountains of evidence that this is a problem because you didn't see it with your own two eyes? Do you expect your lucky streak to continue and that these problems which affect millions will never hit you?

The point of bringing up Sim City DRM wasn't for you to be think back about your own experience with the DRM, it was to point out how not-uncommon this problem is. That's like saying cancer isn't a concern, because I don't have it.

All your comments in this thread seem short sighted and narrowly focused.
Wow, are you really trying to relate cancer, a disease that kills, to the enjoyment of video games?

It is possible it can become an inconvenience. But, as I mostly care about my enjoyment of gaming, it will not have an impact on that. I have played many online only games and enjoyed them, getting some of the best bang for my buck. I paid $60 for Diablo 3 and played the hell out of it with my wife and friends/family and had a blast. More than got my monies worth.

I didn't enjoy Sim City as much, but it wasn't because of the online component.

I am not sure what winning the lottery has to do with anything. And sure there may be some server drops. There will also be added conveniences and features in an integrated online console like this, so the trade off may be worth it.

EA did make a mistake in Sim City, and MS may make a mistake here. You are trying to argue that I love some of these decisions/announcements by MS, when I merely find them mildly annoying at worst. I am also a long time MMO player, so I am used to these gaming scenarios.

No defeats, I think he was making a joke. Gotta lighten up a little. Too much internet video game rage.

Absolutely not. But I actually anticipated that you'd take the most superficial interpretation of said analogy to heart.

The intent is to demonstrate the outlandish nature of your flippant attitude. Nowhere did I equate cancer to DRM. You need to work on your comprehension.

It's not that it "can," it's that it "will." And that "an inconvenience" is actually "obsolescence."
I didn't enjoy Sim City 3 as much, but it wasn't because of the online component.
...

Sim City isn't Sim City 3. Hell, Sim City wasn't even the third sim city.
I am not sure what winning the lottery has to do with anything.

Will. Not may.

Such as...?

I'm not trying to argue that you love these decisions. I have made absolutely no attempt to claim that. I don't even care that you like or dislike the xbone. I'm simply correcting your hand-waving of the issue, because, despite your dismissal, this is a big deal. These problems are real. And they do affect everybody. Whether or not you see them as a deal breaker or not is your prerogative. But don't pretend like there aren't very real issues with this.

Didn't really have plans on buying a Xbox One, as I dont care for Xbox consoles. If I do ever get a new console, its just more solidification behind getting a Wii U.

On a similar note, I don't think anyone brought this up as I didn't read it, but if someone did, sorry. I was informed that the XBox One's Kinect is always on, and if you're watching a movie with 4 people and someone walks in view of the Kinect, it will stop the movie and make you pay for the 5th viewer to continue. And at prices up to $5. Anyone have an article that confirms this?

I have such a huge backlog of games to play with no restrictions spanning 25 years of gaming greatness. All this console is helping me do is catch up on my backlog and save money. The only thing I even use my current 360 for is Forza 4 anyways. Microsoft could go away completely and I would never even notice. Microsoft, my bank account thanks you!

it's just video games. chill out.

if MS has server problems endlessly and DRM starts costing them significant sales, they will likely have to adapt. But, as was the case with EA and Blizzard, they made bank despite shitty DRM and may think that the vocal minority was/is not worth fretting over. Besides, I actually bet MS gets the always online thing "right" (even if it sucks) as they have more than a single game banking on it and more resources to throw at doing it well.

This isn't discussed in an article, but it was actually a patent:

appft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1="20120278904".PGNR.&OS=DN/20120278904&RS=DN/20120278904

That doesn't mean this is a part of the Xbone, it hasn't been discussed. Microsoft and Sony patent stuff all the time, but not all the stuff they patent actually gets used. I could point out a number of devices patented by both which never got implemented.
