You wont need a gold membership unless you want to play multiplayer. It will still connect, update, and allow you to play games with silver membership.flex wood wrote:So I should stock up on xbox gold memberships now is what you're telling me right?
This is going to be really funny when people have no clue about this and then buy the console and wonder why it doesn't work. Remember the people that actually read about video game news and are in "the know" are a very small minority.

I can't see myself being greatly impacted by these (bad) decisions, but I'm concerned that they are bad enough that the console might not be sustainable. When Joe Public can't trade in his games at Gamestop and always on DRM cuts out a percentage of users, I'd be worried about the long term prospects for success. Plus, bundled with the new Kinect, there's no way this thng won't be pretty pricey.
That said, if they adopt the (horrible) rent-to-own model they've offered lately for the 360 and someone can get this for $100 down + $20/month or something, I bet they sell well anyway.

Yeah I mostly agree with this. I will end up getting it to play my sports leagues. Will be great for that.dsheinem wrote:I can't see myself being greatly impacted by these (bad) decisions, but I'm concerned that they are bad enough that the console might not be sustainable. You are always online, but microsoft is not. Remember when they were down for 3 weeks world-wide, days before christmas, a few years ago?Jmustang1968 wrote:I am always online and bought almost every game new for this gen. I didn't pay $60 for a good many of my games. You can usually find them new for the same price as used after a few months on Amazon. I will treat it more like a PC now. I haven't been able to sell most of those games for years now.TheSonicRetard wrote:You're on a retro collecting site, and they just killed the prospect of second-hand sales and put a time limit on the lifespan of working games, and you're not affected?Jmustang1968 wrote:
Ehh maybe some questionable decisions, but none of those will really have any direct effect on me.
You say you can find titles after a few months on Amazon. What about after a few years? Try to find me a retailer selling, for example, Outrun 2 for the Xbox 360 or PS3.
Your comparison to PC gaming is laughable. Steam doesn't require me to confirm that, yes, I bought my game every 24 hours.
You have a "my sales thread" link in your sig. You are affected.

This assumes certain items have a right to guaranteed success. What the fucking fuck? Apparently they learned nothing from the Tweet nonsense and they've never heard that line about assumptions. Hey Boring Supreez, fuck you buddy! (I imagine you have broadband access in the military now, but still you're the one person I thought of)A new generation of games with power from the cloud: Because every Xbox One owner has a broadband connection, developers can create massive, persistent worlds that evolve even when you’re not playing.
Nothing is future proof and of course once they decide to turn servers off, tough shit. It's a fucking stupid marketing term.Future proofed with power from the cloud: Microsoft has created a global network of more than 300,000 Xbox Live and Windows Azure servers, to help creators realize their visions of what is possible with a connected system.
Holy fuck, you mean like if they were to insert the disc or cartridge like the way older stuff works? AMAZING!Share access to your games with everyone inside your home: Your friends and family, your guests and acquaintances get unlimited access to all of your games. Anyone can play your games on your console--regardless of whether you are logged in or their relationship to you.
Way to pass the buck there. "It isn't us, it's them."Trade-in and resell your disc-based games: Today, some gamers choose to sell their old disc-based games back for cash and credit. We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games.

I would advise everybody to brace themselves, because I'm willing to bet dollar to dime that the PS4 has some similar measures in place.
It appears my days of buying new consoles are over.

it is a bad thing if i buy one because i don't care about these "problems" but enough people don't because they do because i'd have bought a pricey console without much support.
I'd likely feel like most wii u owners do now
