...I think I killed Magus.

He was being a bitchy narcissist on a hill top and whining about how tough Lavos is, how weak I was, how much Chrono sucked, and how amazingly awesome he was. And then he made a comment about Frog and asked if I wanted to fight. So I said yes and wiped the floor with his bitch ass, but now I don't think I can get him as a character.

Eh, win some, lose some. There's always the New Game+!

Anyway, I've got the flying Epoch now, Chrono is gone, the Black Omen has appeared, and I've got a time egg. My characters are in the low 40s, level-wise. Ayla and Frog have all of their techs (as did Chrono), Marle is working on her last one, Robo is working on his second-to-last one, and Lucca...well, Lucca sucks. That's basically the opinion I've come to. And she sucks even more now that I've finished Robo's future sidequest, gotten him his best weapon, and permanently upgraded his speed and magic defense with his dead robot girlfriend's ribbon. So Lucca is now the slowest character.

Oh, and pro-tip: when Dalton takes all your crap and imprisons you on his ship, Ayla doesn't care and can still fight. Bare hands are awesome!

My friend was playing Chrono Trigger for the first time, and messaged me to tell me she was in the Magus fight. I was like "DON'T SAVE!!" and made sure she had a recent save before the fight, so that after she won she could reload it and get him as a character.

I've actually never beaten Chrono Trigger without Magus. I should try it sometime.

I beat it without Magus the second time I played it, mostly because I wanted to actually fight him. However, I've never beaten it without Crono. It just seems wrong to do so.

As I recall, its also possible to finish without Robo if you wish.

Whoa the spoilers are out in force. Some of these might spoil it for Ack too, and he's still playing it :(

Yeah, that's true, I edited my post.

To be fair though, Ack himself spilled what is probably the game's biggest spoiler.

I really don't care. The game came out nearly 20 years ago. I know what happens in it. The thrill of the game isn't what happens, it's how I got there.

Well, I knew there was the potential that you would know. It just would have been a shame for you if you didn;t know a certain plot element and it was spoiled.

I understand this thread is one full of spoilers, but I thought maybe people could be a little more careful if someone is actually playing through a game for the first time right now

We've already had this argument though. It's the reason why Noise doesn't come here. Truth is, if we really didn't want to spoil anything, we would need to spoiler tag everything. Every location in a game, every item, and every character name could be considered a spoiler. I don't think it is practical, and I view the experience of playing the game (something I see as entirely subjective) to be more important than elements within it. So for me, ruining a major plot element won't damage my perception of a game.

As an example, your recent talks about building characters in Fire Emblem Awakening could be seen as a massive spoiler. I know nothing of the game, but now I know what characters are possible to get, how to reclass characters effectively, etc. I also know about Wild Arms' beginning and how its story comes together thanks to a post you wrote some months back.

And as for how impractical it can be, I have a coworker who refuses to let me discuss movies at all because it will spoil them. She becomes upset that people have spoiled something when we mention what actor plays what character in a film. She even refuses to watch movie trailers unless as a captive audience in a theater, simply because she wants nothing spoiled. Discussing upcoming films isn't hard with her, it's impossible.

I created this thread specifically to foster communication about RPGs, something which I feel spoiler tagging hinders. It puts an additional step into a discussion, it warns people away from looking at potentially informative posts (which might contain vital clues people need and which they might want to offer commentary on), and there is no real way to measure their effectiveness beyond hearing people complain when they don't work.

So moving on...I'm not really upset about missing out on Magus. The rest of the party is quite powerful and offers a lot of differing abilities to tailor a party to my needs. Plus...well, his personality wasn't exactly great. If anything, he just struck me as too angsty at the end, to the point he came off as whining. Guy's got an army of monsters at his control and powerful magic. Awesome. So he's willing to dick over everyone and everything, insult everyone, and generally be a douche because he is angry at his mom and an overgrown tick (and that's really all Lavos is). And when he gets his butt handed to him, he just sits there and mopes on a hilltop while spewing insults? Fuck that. I hope he learned something important from his thrashing. If anything, not including him in my awesome legion of kick ass robots, amazing frog knights, and scantily clad cavewomen babes is probably good for him. I hope he learns something. And if not...well, I'll kick his ass again.

Did a little bit of level grinding, got my first set of dragon powers, and then made it to Auria in Breath of Fire this morning.
