MAN OF STEEL

Holeeeeeee. Marvel's stand alone films have nothing on this. It was nothing like I expected, besides, well, ya know, Superman being in it. All I'll say is that although it looks like a "cold" movie from the aesthetics, this film is full of heart.

With movies like BEFORE MIDNIGHT and FRANCES HA on my "watched list" it can be difficult to put them into a numbered rating, but as of today MAN OF STEEL is my #1 movie of the year.

If I think Superman sucks, will this change my mind?

The first film or the character? I'm going to assume you mean the character, so I will address your question as so.

Probably not, but you'll enjoy the movie. I'm not a Superman fan...well, I guess I am now.

So a definite Gremlins-level film?

I have never heard of this, but it sounds like the best movie of all time. Maybe Luke will reconsider his Man of Steel ranking after he views it?

Seriously, though, this sounds immensely fun. Where did you watch it, cookie? Is it streaming anywhere? I pretty much only watch art and classic films on Hulu+ and Netflix; so, this would be a nice change of pace.

Also, the Spy in Black (1939) is a superb espionage drama, and The House on Telegraph Hill (1951) is now among my favoriter film noirs.

A movie I might watch every year for the rest of my life? Probably not.

What follows aren't spoilers, but I'm spoiler-tagging it for people who want to know absolutely nothing about the movie.
I'll definitely buy the blu-ray though, and MAN OF STEEL will mop the floor with IRON MAN 3 (which I highly enjoyed) in reviews and sales. Fanboys will go out of their mind, and for good reason.

So much of the movie is unexpected, and not talking about plot twists. I didn't expect a Superman movie to provide such powerful emotional depth, and I was surprised at how well Synder pulled this off.

My main gripe about previous Superman movies is that he always did kind of act like an alien. He's aloof, and is pretty much a "good to do super powerful idiot".

This go around he's unbelievable, but believable (if that makes any sense).

Can not wait to see this in a packed theater.

How does it compare to Lois & Clark, by far the best Superman-related thing ever made?

FDR had its limited release in 2012. Watch the trailer and expect 90 minutes of the same. If that's your thing, go for it and also watch Lincoln Vampire Slayer (or whatever it was called).

Not anymore.

I prefer Lewis and Clark anyway.
