i like the GG port of this game. i thought it was nicely done with its hardware limitations.

i also played the SNES and Sege CD version. while i love the SNES port, i think the Sega CD version is the closest to the arcade port (minus the loading).

OKAY!

Oh yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by how solid the actual gameplay was
Probably gonna move to the SFC or NGCD version next.

Played through MVS difficulty the other night as Kim (just as I said I would). Had a blast; Kim is probably my favorite character in the game. Still took me 15 continues or so (yeah, I'll never see Ryo except on the SNES port and AES port-->via memory card save), but only had to continue once on Krauser. The last round consisted of frantically switching planes, a tactic, I rarely even use, but hey, "He started it". Otherwise, Kim is very effective against him. I love his stomppy kick.

I really should learn a new fighter though. Playing it safe was plenty fun, but Kim, Terry, Joe, and Mai are almost all I ever use.
Thinking of using Duck King or Cheng, as I've always liked Blanka on SFII...
or maybe Tung Fue Rue or Billy. Laurence would be neat too, I think. Still deciding, but I think I'll go back to "Normal" mode with fighters I don't know real well.

Hey Noise, does the SCD version limit credits? I know the Samurai Shodown port only gives you 4 (another 4 if you continue just before death on the second controller).

Finally, like foxhound and seven0seven, I was impressed by the GG port. It's probably the best fighter on the system, and I never felt I had to wrestle with the directional pad to complete moves. Really wish Kim was on there though.

Word to Yamada!

Ha. Still playing through with Jubei and encountering more tough battles. I didn't know you'd be fighting yourself here. Of course that means the CPU can be a copycat, as soon as I pull off a move it does the same.

One more thing, I'd sure like to know what Mr. Rue eats to be able to project such an image from his backside!

I know the game of the month is Special, but I've been focusing on FF2 today! HOLY MOLY THIS GAME IS A PAIN. It's been a while since I played an SNK fighter.

I'm up to Axel as Terry and the game is paused because I need to give my thumbs a break.
AND I'M PLAYING ON EASY. T___T I'm sure that if I was playing in an arcade, I would have to sink a couple hundred dollars in quarters if I wanted to beat it.

I don't understand how people become good at hardcore fighting games like this besides having some sort of chemical imbalance in your brain.

Understandable, since you have to deal with SCD load times too.

I'm definitely not "Good" at this game... but a lot older fighters like this, you have to play with a different mentality. When I'm really into it, I just continue a bunch of times trying slight variations on my fighting style until I start having success. Often I have to re-invent how I approach each new fighter.

Anyway, tried Duck King the other night and I like him well enough. One of his combo-like moves is totally worthless, but I do like his Blanka Roll and his knee attack. Add that to his slide move and he's not a bad fighter.
Can't get the hang of his desperation move yet, and can't get past more than a few fighters before I give up, but I think I'll stick with him.

Also tried Duck King in the Real Bout games and WOW, he is much more effective in the later games.

To ExedExes
Jubei is such a little bastard great host. He gets me so worked up comfortable as he throws escorts me around his stage. He even has the gall the kindness to shove cookies down my throat offer me cookies before any of my moves reach him.
Strange how he can be so hard to fight as and so annoying to fight against.

I like that he's not so flashy or projectile dependent, and that you have to fight close. The extra throws he's got balances himself out. I've just always been a fan I guess. Of course the win quote is just so 90s too -

I finally beat Krauser in Fatal Fury 2. The soundtrack was bugging and the music would stop about three seconds into the first round, probably because I've had my PS2 on for 7 hours. I was hoping to get some kind of cool cutscene but instead just get one dinky image of Terry standing over Krauser with a message saying that Terry became the strongest in the world? MAN, I know you're not supposed to play fighting games for the story, but I'm kind of let down.

Well, now I'll be focusing on Fatal Fury Special!

Yeah, actually, I think it's pretty neat that you're playing as him. I never could get the hang of him myself.

I'm more likely to play as the other Jubei:

Apparently, Duck King's Desperation move is a throw, which I was able to do ONCE (and try as I may, I cannot duplicate it :x ).
On the plus side, I've become quite adept at his inverted air kick. That thing can hit 3 times sometimes, and can even dizzy when it does fully connect.
