I should also suggest keeping the way the PBC sits in mind when doing mods on a model 1. The back of it overlaps a good chunk of the backside of a model 1 Genesis.

None of the Power Base facts bother me, but there are other methods if you must play Master System carts on a Genesis. There's a converter from Tototek that will work on any model, and you can play SMS games on an Everdrive Genesis flash cart.

Not to hijack the thread, but quickly: Is there any difference in durability/lifespan between models 1 and 2? I have two model 2's because I haven't found a model 1 with the "High Definition Graphics" label yet (the version I had back in the day). Frankly the model 2 feels like a hollow piece of crap when I hold it and, more importantly, it has trouble booting up certain games.

Now it's entirely possible I have a few bad carts (even after cleaning) but even with the ones that work properly I tested just tapping on the console itself and sometimes that is enough to stop the game from working. I haven't tested my 2nd model 2 yet but would the model 1 fix any of this or do I maybe just happen to have a wonky model 2 that might have a lackluster pin connector?

Your model 2 and/or carts just might have to be cleaned better.

The model 2's aren't inferior in build quality compared to the model 1 IMO. The reason the model 2 feels hollow is because there's a lot less inside of it compared to the model 1. Especially later revisions to the model 2 (mentioned above), there's even less inside.

Oh yes, definitely. That's pretty ideal I'd say.

That's similar to how I did my toploader. Just put a 1/8" headphone jack on it and a Y cable for the audio/vido

I actually did it that way because I hate drilling holes in consoles. I figured if you're wanting S-Video then you're never gonna even think about RF, so I removed it. It was just a happy coincidence that it doesn't effect the Power Base because I never even cared about that.

No, the High Def ones are good. There's some revisions with out HDG printed on it that are also good, but the last revisions to the model 1 has bad audio, as well as the first few revisions to the model 2. IIRC, I read that the later model 1's and early model 2's had the same audio circuitry. I've had multiple revisions of both models and did a lot of comparison, the early model 2's indeed sound like shit. Hum... I'd call it more of a hiss.
