What was the last movie you've seen?

I've seen people treat "liking" something the same as saying it's good ... and I never agreed with that line of thinking.

Exactly. Retrodude provides information subjectively, where I base my movie reviews objectively. There are plenty of movies I don't like (GONE WITH THE WIND), but I realize they are wonderful movies. And then there are movies like AFTER EARTH that I don't like, and know it's a terrible movie.

I know people who loved BATTLEFIELD EARTH and still say "It's a great movie". It isn't. It's a terrible movie. That doesn't stop people from saying "It's a great movie" when they should be saying "I liked the movie".

Listen, I love the tv show Full House, but I would never say "It's a good sitcom", as it isn't. The acting is bad, the sets are laughable, and the least funny person on the show is a comedian.

And I love plenty of terrible movies, but I'd never refer to them as a "Good movie".

I was referring to Joey Alvin Gladstone (yes, I know all of their full names).

Bob actually wanted the role of Gladstone, and Bob also didn't shoot the pilot for the show. In the opening credits there are shots of the other Danny Tanner if you look closely.

Yeah, Bob was way out of his comfort zone, and there is no doubt in my mind the guy was using coke while filming.

And how about that Rebecca Donaldson? Hubba hubba. Not sure how good she looks in her birthday suit, but I certainly had a crush on her when I was a kid. Well, I also had a crush on Candace Cameron.

That's pretty much how I feel, I just don't always do a good job of expressing it. I never said After Earth was a great movie. All I said was that I enjoyed it and I thought it was better than some of Shaymalan's other films (for example, you can't deny it's a vast improvement over Lady In The Water, which truly is a terrible film). Critics in general need to learn not to take this stuff so seriously. When I want to watch a Great Sci Fi Classic, I'll watch 2001 or Planet Of The Apes (one of Rod Serling's finest moments IMO), but most of the time, I'm just as happy to watch Titan AE or The Last Starfighter.

The problem I have is in the way the critics use the same criteria to judge every movie. You can't do that. To use the Transformers series as an example, if you try to look at it as Art, of course you're going to think it's terrible, but as a big, dumb, turn-your-brain-off action flick, it's very satisfying and does exactly what a film like that should. You don't go see a movie like that expecting Shakespeare, you do it to have fun and it's kind of a bummer that so many people can't just enjoy something without comparing it to other, better films they have no business comparing it to.

No it doesn't. That's my point. It's terrible as a big dumb action flick.

"Awesomely Awful" is one of my favorite genres. But sometimes movies are just "Awful" and should be called as such. In many an occasion someone makes a movie that is so off the mark you can't help but laugh (THE ROOM). The creator's heart is in the right place but they can't find their brain.

Then you have terrible movies (AFTER EARTH) that has no heart nor brain. It's just a vanity "blockbuster" nonsense that is more of a (really, really bad) resume for jaden smith.

I honestly don't know whether FOODFIGHT falls into Awesomely Awful or Just Awful. But that wasn't the last film I watched...
If I'm not mistaken that was Emperor's New Groove and I already mentioned.

Well that was bland and disappointing. If you haven't heard about this movie, it's supposed to be a galpal cop movie, similar to RUSH HOUR. Unfortunately it's more like a galpal RUSH HOUR 2.

Isn't awful, but Melissa McCarthy and Sandy B. were total wastes of great talents. Their chemistry isn't exactly forced, but it seems "movie fake" if that makes sense. Most of the jokes you can see coming a mile away, and the rest consist of McCarthy spurting out f-bombs.

I'd say it's better than A COUPLE OF DICKS/COP OUT and a bit in the same vein, so if you enjoyed COP OUT this might be worth your money. Not mine.
