What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

Many of the 'Fine arts' majors where I went to school did. Some of them did make some genuinely interesting stuff, but there were plenty that would spend way more time coming up with some elaborate meaning behind some ugly and hastily looking made crap. There was one guy a year ahead of me, his senior project consisted of moving a neatly stacked pile of bricks around campus once a week for a month. They were just in a neat rectangular pile. Not anything actually interesting. I forget what it was, but he had some huge bullshit concept for its meaning written up. Another friend always made jokes about fine artists at school writing up something for 'poop in a bucket'.

this is maddening. We've gotten several texts asking for "15 minutes and its done" or shit like "Im finally happy with the color, should be up momentarily."

This was like an hour ago. I bet you $5 that it's gonna be that fucking puke green with yellow text again.
I majored in Graphic Design and had to take several classes that overlapped with Fine Arts majors (Drawing, Photo, Sculpture...). While there were a few like that, most of them that I encountered were not quite so...uppity. For instance, there were no 'brick moving' or similar incidents at my school that I'm aware of.

Your friend is probably just over-thinking it. That's something that everyone tends to do from time to time, but I find it's more prevalent with the more artistic minded crowd. I do the same thing myself sometimes. The difference is, when you're working on your own projects it's fine (I could spend hours searching for the right type face, for instance), but I have deadlines to reach when working for other people.

If it bothers you so much don't have him do it again, or if that's not an option, give him some boundaries to work with. Like tell him what you want it to look like and maybe give him some color swatches

That's the problem. He views himself as the second coming of Picasso. He claims hes professional, and 'wants to do it right'.

Dude. its a flier for a punk show that NO ONE is going to attend except for our girlfriends and wives. can you fucking please just choose Garamond, put it on the flier with "21+" and fucking be done with it?

I've sent two fliers TWO of them in the last couple of hours and he says "i appreciate the input, but I wanna do this right from a design stand point."

WHAT THE FUCK

Thats the difference between fine artists and graphic designers. We like to take scope into account.

National Publication = Potential Millions of Viewers = Ungodly hours of work
Local Publication = Potential Hundreds/Thousands of Viewers = Median hours of work
Flyer for local band = 20 Viewers (Give or take) = 2 hours tops

BTW, that video of the band you posted earlier sounded really good.

Everyone knows that punk flyers are better run through a copy machine in black and white mode. Seriously, what the hell is 'color'. Color is for consumers. Your friend isn't very punk. He isn't very punk at all.

Black and white on color paper!

Yeah I wouldn't do full color for flyers anyway. Costs more and black and white works just as well.

If it takes more than 15 minutes, it's not punk.

Go with the B&W photocopy as suggested. Good enough for Sex Pistols, good enough for you.

:( This really freaking bites, because we've been working so hard to get this stupid car registered here, but keep getting pointed in different directions. I'm finally making good money and feel semi-successful in life, but I'm throwing all my money at this piece of crap car. What's worse, is that we were planning on buying a brand new vehicle, but now with half of my savings are gone, there's no way we can do that.

It was so easy to get a car inspected/registered back home, and costs a hell of a lot less as well. We're calling the mechanic in the morning. So far they've been extremely nice, and seem rather fair. Maybe they'll have some advice, or at least look into whatever they said was wrong with the cruiser.

:( All of this crap is cutting into our vacation funds. If I give up vacation, I'm seriously going to go insane. I need to see my family and I need to get out of this city and away from this job for a while. My hair is literally falling out from all this stress.

:? Played lots of video games today to vent my frustration. Felt good getting all that anger out on a controller like I used to do. Just sucks that I was playing for that reason alone.

(Random daughter update that nobody cares about:)
:D My daughter went absolutely bonkers today. She jumped in my lap and started banging on the keyboard yelling various video game characters. I pulled up a picture of Sonic and she yelled "SOOOOOOONNNIIIIIIIIIC" in the most demonic voice I've ever heard. She then saw Shadow and started yelling his name too. After she was done shouting at the screen, she grabbed her Mario toy and ran around screaming "Mario, ~weegie, Yoshi!".

Just ate a tuna sandwich
:D Tasted Great :( Smells awful

So, he'd been "getting the color right" and "setting up spacing" for nearly 5 days and we got this (mildly NSFW)

What the hell is that?
I'm pretty sure I could come up with something better in Gimp, and there is not a single artistic bone in my body. The guy is an "Art" major? Has he ever taken any graphic design courses?
Sorry, but that's just bad... :|
