What was the last movie you've seen?

Not a full-length film, but I recently watched a short film called "Next Floor". It's about an opulent dinner party that is constantly besieged by unusual events. It's really just the same event over and over, though.

It felt like it was a comedy, but I didn't feel it was funny.

Saw Now You See Me last night was actually pretty good. I would give the writing a 5/5 the plot was very well laid out, with plenty of clues scattered about to let the audience guess what would happen next, and the twist at the end blindsided me which was great . The performances of Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine were great and i thought they were very well cast. The rest of the cast also did a very good job however my liking of Jesse Eisenberg has began to sour. He always gets cast as a whiny/arrogant wimp and it's starting to get annoying .

Overall I would give it a 8.5/10.

This movie doesn't interest me other than maybe how they're pulling off their tricks.

Great, great movie. Certain elements of it are elevated if you have ever been in west Texas before, lots of little things that you might not feel for otherwise. Captures the area well though, and its just a good movie all around.

You think THE GREEN HORNET is vastly underrated, defend the TRANSFORMERS series, and the absurdity of the last twenty minutes of INTO DARKNESS didn't even phase you.

It's because I've never been a snob (no offense) and my film classes failed to turn me into one. Not every film has to be Great Art, and most don't even try, so evaluating each one by some mythical and completely made up artistic standard is a never ending exercise in frustration. You might occasionally see something you like, but mostly you end up hating everything you see and that's really sad.

My secret is being able to enjoy film on many different levels so that, on the one hand, I can enjoy something serious and thought-provoking like "Doubt" and have a spirited debate afterwards about what the ending meant and on the other hand, I can also enjoy something completely silly like "Battleship" purely for its value as entertainment. In my experience, most people don't have the ability to do that and I often get into arguments with people because I'm not jaded or cynical, I don't think I'm smarter than everyone else and I don't think a film is worthless if it has no artistic ambition. And for the record, I don't like everything. I hated Twilight, Harold And Kumar, The Amazing Spider-Man, Moulin Rouge, Titanic, Desperation, Land Of The Lost, the list goes on.

Y'know, besides that one plot issue with the dates, I liked it. I didn't go in expecting much besides some gore and twisted idealism, and thats what I got, so I was quite happy about it.

Though, I feel odd knowing that I started rooting for Leatherface so easily, and how well I agreed with the "blood is thicker than water" undertones. Hmm...

I think the differences between "knowin' what you're talking about" when it comes to film is whether you liked it vs if you thought it was good.

Liking something is entirely up to taste. But, if you argue something that is technically terrible as a film is good, then that'd be grounds for questioning the authority you may possess on the subject.

It's sci-fi/tech and some old school illusions/tricks. Although Woody Harrelson has mentalist abilities that I would classify as "magic" since he basically can mind control just about anyone .

Interestingly enough Morgan Freeman's character is a Magician De bunker and he explains how they pulled each stunt off after each show. Basically his characters goal in life is exposing the tricks of other magicians on his show mainly for money, but he is also just an asshole in general lol.

Overall I wasn't to excited about the movie and didn't plan on going to see it. However my mother and her friend were going and they begged me to come with them. Was glad I went and really surprised at how good it was because the trailers didn't impress me at all.

Exactly. Retrodude provides information subjectively, where I base my movie reviews objectively. There are plenty of movies I don't like (GONE WITH THE WIND), but I realize they are wonderful movies. And then there are movies like AFTER EARTH that I don't like, and know it's a terrible movie.

I know people who loved BATTLEFIELD EARTH and still say "It's a great movie". It isn't. It's a terrible movie. That doesn't stop people from saying "It's a great movie" when they should be saying "I liked the movie".

Listen, I love the tv show Full House, but I would never say "It's a good sitcom", as it isn't. The acting is bad, the sets are laughable, and the least funny person on the show is a comedian.

And I love plenty of terrible movies, but I'd never refer to them as a "Good movie".
