Do any GameBoy "in-1" multicarts contain Shantae?

Post by BitFaced »

Since a lot of NES/FC pirate multicarts contain the rare game Tengen Tetris, can the same be said for Game Boy pirate multicarts and the rare game Shantae?
And how would GBA enhancements work?
N64/NES/FC/SNES/SFC/GB (SGB)/GBC (Black)(SGB)/FDS/Satellaview/Genesis/Mega Drive/Master System & maybe N64DD/GBC/GBA.

No.

Tengen Tetris is commonly found on Famicom multicarts because of it's unlicensed nature and how it spread across Asia in a time when the licensed (Famicom) version of Tetris sucked balls.

In addition, it was a safe bet since Atari was in no real position to sue the pirates for stealing their game because at the time, Nintendo was suing them over their own version of Tetris and Atari/Tengen were under enormous pressure from Russia as well.

On the other hand, Shantae is an extremely rare licensed game released on the very tail end of the GBC's life that saw a limited distribution because it was released well after the GBA was already launched. It's also far too large at 4MB to fit on mulitcarts, plus it needs battery-backed SRAM. Ultimately the biggest reason is because Shantae was a cult classic in North America and absolutely unknown in Asia, where pirate multicarts are produced.

Sorry, but if you want the greatness that is Shantae, you'll need to pick up the real deal.

Or a reproduction maybe? Or is that unfeasible?

Feasible yes, ethical? No. Your best option is get a gameboy flash cart or a gba flashcart.

How is a flashcart MORE ethical than a reproduction? At least I'd be paying for the repro.

I mean that it could end up on ebay being sold to someone who thinks its the real deal paying hundreds of dollars, I guess you could have the label look different so there is no confusion.

Repros do tend to have that.

I have the ethical solution for everyone (including myself) that will most likely not be able to get a hold of an original cart. They will be releasing Shantae on the 3ds virtual console soon (I have heard like end of June I think) I will be picking it up as soon as it hits for sure.

GBC reproductions are possible, but you'd have a bulking eprom hanging out like a tumor. Flashcarts have issues with Shantae since it uses about a million programming tricks. The 3DS release will be the GBC mode only missing the GBA enhanced features.

I strongly suggest anyone who wants Shantae to just bite the bullet and buy it. Shantae is easily one of the greatest games of all time that few bought back in the day. I can say this because I was one of the few who did buy it.

That does seem like the ONLY way to play it...
I don't understand why they made it GBC version on the VC other than the fact they're not doing GBA games. Hey, at least they're sticking to it and not frustrating us by happening to do this GBA-enhanced game and not others.
And I don't know, I'm able to deal with a larger GB/GBC cart sticking out of the GBA SP I'm using, as well as a GBC Rumble cartridge and there's pirate carts that do a similar thing:

What scale are we talking about here?
