Well, it's kind of expected that the vendetta won't be personal yet, since this isn't a Star Trek 2 remake, it's a remake of that one episode where Khan first showed up. When they actually remake Star Trek 2, then we get to complain when they screw up the vendetta.

I'll actually be seeing it in a few hours as part of a morale event at work. I wasn't originally planning on seeing it (never been a big Star Trek fan) but I'm not about to turn down a free movie during work hours.

Well, knowing that apparently it's a glorified alternate universe take on an episode really doesn't change my opinion, especially considering that it mixes in some of the other important stuff from the film.

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING

Really, really loved this interpretation of a near perfect classic. Darker than I thought it would be, and dare I say raunchier than I thought it would be. The cherry on the sundae would be the humor; when the movie tries to be funny, it exceeds at it.

Solid film.

I'll leave it at that, as Whedon-ites will declare this the best adaptation ever, and it's not. WAYYYYYYY better than the new Gatsby, and it is definitely worth the price of admission, but there was nothing spectacular about it. I would agree with Tony that "It's Grrrreat!", but it isn't the masterpiece some Whedon fanboys will claim it to be (that should be expected by now, right?).

Looks like I'm not alone on AFTER EARTH

This quote sums it up rather well: "Once upon a time, Hollywood parents gave their children sports cars as gifts. These days, apparently nothing less than a big-screen vanity project will do for Junior." -- Manhola Dargis, New York Times

Vanity project? perhaps. But while it's certainly no masterpiece, I thought it was a perfectly enjoyable sci-fi flick and the best film Shaymalan's done in quite awhile. I'm in that group who loves his early work, but feels he lost his way and IMO, After Earth is the film that shows he still knows what he's doing. It actually makes me genuinely interested to see what he does next. I will admit, however, that the failed attempt to give the characters an accent of some sort was unintentionally humorous. Not really distracting, but it does make me wonder what they were thinking.

Western Carolina University. Looking back on it, I think my professors liked me because I actually had my own opinions instead of simply parroting everyone else or saying what I thought they wanted to hear. It's not easy being an individual, but it's who I am.

Edit: No offense intended (I just realized how that post sounds).

Ask for a refund.

I know we pleasantly butt heads on film, but if you don't see the utter shit that After Earth is, you know dick about film.

We're both on the same page of "Like what you like, and if others don't like it who cares?" but you like EVERYTHING. You think THE GREEN HORNET is vastly underrated, defend the TRANSFORMERS series, and the absurdity of the last twenty minutes of INTO DARKNESS didn't even phase you. Nothing wrong with having a strong opinion, I actually admire that. But when you say After Earth is an entertaining sci-fi film...I just can't take any of your opinions with any merit. Whatsoever.

I'd love to hear you actually review THE GREEN HORNET. Not kidding. I have an open mind and change my mind like women change shoes. But I have no clue what you think makes a good film.

Enlighten me. What makes all the shitty movies you like good "films"? "Because I liked them" isn't an answer. I like the shitty crayon drawings my two year old niece sends me, but as far as art, they're crap.

Saw Now You See Me last night was actually pretty good. I would give the writing a 5/5 the plot was very well laid out, with plenty of clues scattered about to let the audience guess what would happen next, and the twist at the end blindsided me which was great :). The performances of Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine were great and i thought they were very well cast. The rest of the cast also did a very good job however my liking of Jesse Eisenberg has began to sour. He always gets cast as a whiny/arrogant wimp and it's starting to get annoying :P.

Overall I would give it a 8.5/10.
