Yeah, we have very little reason to drive in that direction.
It's good to know that there are still places like that here, and not everybody is a complete dick. One guy took the money first and then refused to refund it when we didn't pass. I've NEVER had that happen before, and inspections were a hell of a lot cheaper back home too.

We were usually good about feeling out places like that back home, but we've already tried several places here. Every time it's something different. I call shenanigans :|
Certain places will try to invent car problems to make some $$$.

I avoid chains like VIP/Sears for inspections because they love to do that sort of thing.

"Why, well you need a new Johnson rod in here." "Oh, a Johnson rod. Yeah, well better put one of those on!"

Gotta find a good, honest mechanic.

^My mechanic is a Godsend.

But yeah jinx, if you fail an inspection I'm pretty certain that money goes to the state by law. Some places are also pretty heavily regulated, so there is that too.

Bittersweet: It's Sunday. That day of "relaxing" while work is always in the back of your mind.

Smile: Have plans for company to come over and grilling out this evening.

Bonus Smile: I probably will have some free time to play Bioshock Infinite. That is, if I finally decide to put my Sega CD back on the shelf, which is doubtful.

Smile: My laptop's fine. As it turns out, malwarebytes actually did get rid of whatever it was. The reason I was seeing SVC in my virus scan is because it was scanning the legitimate SVCs that are supposed to be there. Because I'd never seen it do that before, I thought there was still something wrong with it. Live and learn. Consultations are free, apparently, so they didn't charge me anything for looking at it.

Bonus Smile: While I was there, I snagged the "Pirates: Band Of Misfits" bluray for ten bucks (gotta love those sales).

You can't find any places that give hot stickers? That's what we always do on the junker truck.

What is a hot sticker? I've never heard of that before.

I assume he's using "hot" as a euphamism for stolen.

If that's the case, I'd rather explain to an officer that I just poured $1500 into the car to get it brought up to inspection standards, show him the work orders, and tell him that it's a work in progress rather than tell him/her that I chose to take the easy route by doing something illegal. So far I haven't had any trouble, but I think because I still have the out of state plates and inspection sticker on the car, the cops don't really want to bother.

If we can't get it done here before our vacation, we're going to get it inspected in La. At least it will be legal somewhere and buy us some time. I don't know if the police here think the same way, but back home if you showed them that you were actually trying to fix something, they cut you a break. Then again, I know most of the officers back home. Working overnight in a diner and giving out free coffee and pancakes makes some good connections.

USMNT vs. Germany. We're playing some great soccer today. Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore are playing beautifully.

jinx wrote:  Why the hell is it so difficult to get an inspection sticker here? Even after spending a couple thousand dollars on this piece of crap PT Cruiser, I still can't get a pass!? Back home, they would get in the car, drive it forwards, then backwards, test your indicators, and slap a sticker on. Here, they seem to check emissions and all sorts of crap. We need to get it inspected to register it here before we have to pay loads of fines. This is absolutely ridiculous.
Different counties and states have different things they check for. I don't know if it's changed there, but when I was in high school, inspection in my parent's county was pretty much making sure the brakes, tires, blinkers, wipers, and seatbelts were in order and cost maybe $12 or so. Here in Houston they check emissions and it costs $50+.

If the car is registered in Texas, you have to get it inspected here. I can't remember if you can get away with inspecting it in a county other than it is registered in or not.
