I'm not sure if this one is universal but it goes something like this.
If I like the Show, the games absolutely SUCK. (Cowboy Bebop, Kenshin, Sailor Moon,Ghost in the Shell,Samurai Champlool)
If the show bores me or I hate it, the games are usually awesome and worth checking out. (Bleach, Naruto, Gundam)
The Only Real exception to the Rule is Macross. Is this the case with the rest of you?
I understand some people like Sailor Moon games, but they're mostly just boring and easy Beat em ups or fighters.

Record of Lodoss Wars for the dreamcast is really good. So are the Sword of Berserk games.TheRev wrote:I'm not sure if this one is universal but it goes something like this.

You are right though, the majority of good quality anime shows do not get the same standard in videogames, whereas the more popular franchises i.e. Naruto, Dragon Ball Z etc. all have much more money invested in the games because of the broad success of the series.

Re: The Anime Game Rule
Most anime games i have played are just fighter's and they're decent at least. Naruto, DBZ and Saint Seiya (Hades) have some good fighters and other games.
Though there anime games that i wanna try but are Japan only (Rurouni Kenshin, Sword Art)

Re: The Anime Game Rule
If the show isn't a shonen battle manga to begin with, I can't see it making a good transition to video game. I remember Love Hina got a text adventure on the GBA, no?
Anyway it probably has more to do with your taste being non-teenage-mainstream.
I'm also amazed that Naruto has gotten the most high budger and high profile releases, when One Piece is bigger in Japan (and it just got its first HD game last year, and it's not even a classic 1 on 1 fighte

Re: The Anime Game Rule
Not the case for me in the slightest, there are dozens of good anime games based on franchises I enjoy. Granted I'm a big Gundam fan so there alone there is a truckload of good games, but even with franchises I could care less about like Naruto/Bleach, I'll still play the games because they are usually very fun and visually pleasing. Those Naruto fighters are fantastic anime fighters really, regardless of how boring the franchise itself has gotten.
Anime games are still going really strong now too, with some of the best Gundam games ever having come out in the past few years, the new JoJo fighter, Hokuto no Ken and One Piece getting picked up by Koei, the Saint Seiya game...
If anything, anime-based games are the one format where licensed game =/= bad, and they are often quite good. Not to say they are all good, but there is certainly lots of quality to be had, and throughout every generation.

I rarely watch any anime, but did watch some of these. I liked them.

Also, the GiTS games have a pretty good reputation (PS2 and PSP at least).

Haha seriously, those Naruto games are pretty damn fun.brunoafh wrote:Not the case for me in the slightest, there are dozens of good anime games based on franchises I enjoy. @Damm64: Yeah Gungrave is an interesting case, with the anime coming second while the games were first. Don't see that too often.
Pretty sure I hear most people who like Valkyrie Chronicles weren't too big on the anime.
etc
