Re: New Xbox releases in Nov. Will be called "Xbox"
People are upset about the proposed stripping of rights consumers have classically had by introducing new systems that are built to be unsustainable and only benefit a core group of parties that have no consumer interests in mind.
Where as on the Sony side of the situation, all evidence is that Sony will offer the possibility, but leaves it up to publishers and will most likely not utilize it themselves ... not creating mandatory systems.
In a few years, people are going to wonder when they stopped owning video games they bought. The current road these processes are going down are not very good for consumers.
Putting all your trust in a digital sales system requires that you trust the people running it. All the people who have their hands in the Xbox One pot have a history of betraying that kind of consumer trust.
But, it's not out yet, so we'll see.

I really doubt that Microsoft will release the Xbox1 as having to be continually supported online otherwise the games wont work.
Anyway, not sure if this is out of topic, but when are expected to see the next price drop on current gen. console. I'd like a ps3 but still want it for less than it is offered today.

Maybe some months after the PS4 is released.
Most games are fairly cheap already i'm starting to build up a list of cheap games to buy (resident evil 6 has gone DOWN really quick... i don't care what people say about it i'm gonna play it!)

Games that will utilize their cloud processing functionality will require continuous online connection to play. If your favorite game uses that feature, you will never be able to play that game on that system (let's hope it isn't an exclusive) after the service has gone away.
I still don't understand why they think this is a good idea. Two games have used this concept, Diablo 3 and SimCity and see where that got them.

They don't think it's a good idea for us, they think it's a good idea for them. And the 2 games you mentioned still managed to sell a shitload of copies, so I guess we (consumers) are more stupid than we think. So why shouldn't Microsoft try to force this stuff down our throats? If we accept it, their win. If we don't, they can just turn the thing around with a firmware update and patches, and we will keep buying their stuff.

I just can't wait for the mod/hacking community gets their hand on this piece of hardware. Very curious to see what they can do to it.

I'd bet that both of those games made an ungodly amount of money for their companies, despite the backlash against them.

Re Diablo III, it broke pre-ordering records, and sold very well on its first day. Consumers who pre-ordered and bought it on its first day could hardly have been prepared for what was to come. "Fool me once." Well, they were fooled. The key isn't whether it sold well, it's whether future games like it will sell as well. But consumers - and the general populace - have short memories. I mean, how else can you explain Mark Sanford's re-election?
Also, just because it sold well doesn't mean it's good for the consumer. You of all people should know that, Dave.

I didn't claim otherwise.
I just don't think Blizzard or EA will have learned much of anything by the chaos surrounding D3 and SimCity. They'll discount the complaints as those of a vocal minority. I think they'll see that the bottom line did well with the DRM and they will rightly surmise that the bottom line will do well in the future even with the same shitty DRM.
It sucks and it is bad for consumers, but I don't think the companies making the games give a shit.

^OK. It just seemed as if you were making an excuse for the companies for a second. You're known for playing devil's advocate here all too often.
