Oh, one other thing Retrodude. If you do end up going to the Geek Squad, delete your porn before you do. And anything embarassing you might have on your machine.

As far as I understand it, SVC malware infects the root of your system and has the potential to allow someone else to control your PC remotely. Nasty stuff. The antivirus I've been using is Avast, which my brother-in-law recommended. I did call and ask for his advice, since he works with computers all day at his job and has helped me out before, but he wasn't sure how to get rid of it either. I just want my computer back cause I really, really don't want to have to buy a new one right now. The Geek Squad may not be the best option (at least according to you guys, I don't know anything about this stuff except what I've learned through trial-and-error), but it's the most convenient.fastbilly1 wrote:What virus scanner are you running? Ive never heard of a SVC directory
Well, I figured I would take my chances, seeing as how I got the malware while attempting to format my sister's PS3. Apparently her console is infected with it and when I hooked it up to my laptop, it infected my system too. You would think the warrenty would cover that, but if it doesn't, I have a Best Buy credit card with a balance of $0.00, so I can charge the repairs to that. No sweat.Hobie-wan wrote:It won't be. That would be like leaving a window halfway down and food in the car overnight to find that raccoons have trashed the interior, then expecting the dealership to cover the repair under warranty.Retrodude wrote:My laptop's still under warrenty, so that should be covered, I think.
I did that first thing, actually, as I'm rather paranoid about strangers snooping through my private stuff.Ack wrote:Oh, one other thing Retrodude. If you do end up going to the Geek Squad, delete your porn before you do. And anything embarassing you might have on your machine.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

Well, you could try HijackThis, though if you don't know what you are doing with it, you can cause some serious damage...
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
That's why I want to let someone else try and fix it, so if my laptop dies it won't be my fault since at the moment, it's still functional aside from the malware.Ack wrote:Well, you could try HijackThis, though if you don't know what you are doing with it, you can cause some serious damage...

Do you mean SVC host? SVC malware doesnt make anysense. Neither does you getting a virus from a PS3.

You actually downloaded porn on your computer?
Isn't that asking for a virus?

I think we need to see some pictures of what you're seeing, Retrodude.

Now I'm not sure if you mean the problems or the porn.o.pwuaioc wrote:I think we need to see some pictures of what you're seeing, Retrodude.

Yes, SVC host is what it is. And believe it or not, that's what happened. My laptop was running perfectly fine until I hooked the PS3 into it, then it kinda froze for a couple of minutes and when it unfroze, Avast popped up to tell me I had a malware infection. The only conclusion I can draw is that the console had it and gave it to me.fastbilly1 wrote:Do you mean SVC host? SVC malware doesnt make anysense. Neither does you getting a virus from a PS3.
Not that much. Besides, if my computer so much as hiccups, I run a quick scan just to be safe. Like I said, I'm paranoid.Luke wrote:You actually downloaded porn on your computer?
