Dents in sealed Atari Boxes???

Recently, my friend moved and he gave me a couple of old sealed Atari games. I don't collect for Atari, but I was excited of course because of the trading opportunities.

On all of the boxes however, there is a depression on the bottom half of the box, underneath where I assume the cartridge is.

My question is this -- why did this happen? Heat? Is this common for old Atari games? Last year I got two sealed atari games at a garage sale and the same phenomenon was present -- it's driving me crazy!
