Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
Re: Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
My favorite "ports" of the series is my MVS 120 in 1 multicart. Yes its MVS but it's not an official cart either.... kind of a grey area for sure but they all play like a dream!

Metal Slug 6 (are least on the PS2/Wii version) in Anthology is a port, not emulated like the first 6 titles in the series. Outside of Japan (which it had it's own single release) this is the only console release of of MS6, so it is the definitive home port.BitFaced wrote:So Anthology.SNK Collection use emulation, input lag & bad controller options, so I'd rather get the ports.
MS1 - PS1 or Saturn
MS2 - ???
MS3 - PS2?
MS4 - PS2/Xbox
MS5 - PS2/Xbox
MS6 - ???
Metal Slug X (Which is the update to 2) was only released as a port for the Neo Geo CD and PlayStation, which would make the PS1 version the definitive version for your list, I have not played it, it may play better under emulation in Anthology than the PS1 port.
Metal Slug 3 was also ported to the Xbox, so much like MS4/MS5, I would put those at an equal with one another (though I have only played the PS2 version, so I am not sure if there is a big difference is quality)

Eh, Neo Geo CD may be cheaper, but that's still not saying much. Metal Slug 1 itself goes for $100-$150.emwearz wrote:Metal Slug 6 (are least on the PS2/Wii version) in Anthology is a port, not emulated like the first 6 titles in the series. I could probably import if it wasn't too much of a big deal. From what I've heard MS6 isn't that good anyways but that's another story. It'd just be a little redundant to get all these Metal Slug games in specific version then just get a compilation and for one of the games.
And the original Xbox may of been faster in processing or RAM than the PS2 or something but it probably wouldn't matter in terms of better version. I could be wrong though.
So...
Metal Slug
PS1 or Saturn
The Saturn version of Metal Slug may of not had mid-stage loading, but I don't have and might not necessarily be looking into getting a Saturn other than for a few games, and I have both a PS1 and PS2 readily available.
Metal Slug 2
Virtual Console
I may skip on getting MS2 in favor of MSX but if I were getting MS2 (should I or shouldn't I?) the Virtual Console rerelease is it sounds like it's the only decent port I'd have access to at the moment (though it wouldn't run in 480p/60HZ).
Metal Slug X
PS1
Metal Slug 3
PS2
I don't have access to the original Xbox and the versions are probably the same.
Metal Slug 4
PS2
I don't have access to the original Xbox and the versions are probably the same.
Metal Slug 5
PS2
I don't have access to the original Xbox and the versions are probably the same.
Metal Slug 6
PS2
I don't have access to the original Xbox and the versions are probably the same.
Metal Slug 7, Metal Slug XX, 1st Mission, 2nd Mission & Advance
DS, PSP, Neo Geo Pocket Color & GBA
N64/NES/FC/SNES/SFC/GB (SGB)/GBC (Black)(SGB)/FDS/Satellaview/Genesis/Mega Drive/Master System & maybe N64DD/GBC/GBA.

So nobody cares for the Wii version of MSA?
Has anyone compared how the games run on PS2 vs. that?

Hmm. I guess I'm odd man out then, I don't really care for the classic controller. I just use a GC controller whenever I can.o.pwuaioc wrote:No classic controller support.foxhound1022 wrote:So nobody cares for the Wii version of MSA?
I also played using the wiimote horizontally - NES style, and TBH, it actually was decent to play; for me anyways.

It supports the GC controller? That is a boon. I don't care for the horizontal Wiimote.foxhound1022 wrote:Hmm. I guess I'm odd man out then, I don't really care for the classic controller. Re: Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
The GameCube controller isn't bad, by any means. But the PS2 controller is better, the D-pad works a lot better.
And isn't the Wii version the same game as the PS2 version, but just a port?
