Castlevania is the regular edition; has only two characters, iirc.

CV: Legacy of Darkness includes all of CV64 and adds two extra scenarios/characters/storylines/etc.

Yeah, Legacy of Darkness is a more fleshed out version with a few new characters, bosses, stories, and some redone areas. CV64 was originally going to have more content (some made it into Legacy of Darkness, some didn't) but it was toned down so the game would release on time.

I do actually want to give Legacy of Darkness a full try sometime (although I don't believe it's a particularly huge improvement over CV64).

Was it done well? That sort of approach is something I miss about that era of gaming.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I'm actually around the three-quarter mark for the Legacy of Darkness werewolf character. I've enjoyed it so far. His scenario repeats a few segments of the default characters though; but the new content is good.

I honestly remember liking CV64, but I usually imagine it could be one of those best left in the past things... lol.

I've probably said this before, but oh well...

I remember when I got CV64. It was well after the PS2 and GCN were out. My local K-Mart always had a bottom shelf in the locked glass case with just a pile of old shit in it. They had a few copies of CV64 and they were all $4.99 IIRC. I thought, "Five bucks for a brand new N64 game! I'll take it!"

Got CV Bloodlines in a similar way. Pretty sure the PS2 was out already, there was a bottom shelf in a Toys R Us with a bunch of dusty video games. I got Bloodlines for $12. I also got a couple of copies of NHL 97 for the Saturn lol.

LMAO

The first post in that thread sums up my feelings exactly for all the clocktower stages in CV.

I know in most games the clock tower stage is a later level, making it harder by default. They're usually mostly vertical levels, and those are always harder as well. But not all CV games have a hard clock tower level.

In CV3 the clock tower is the second level if you choose that path (and then in reverse as the third level). Being only the second level, it's not difficult at all.

In SotN, the clock tower is accessed pretty early in the first castle. But perhaps that's not a fair comparison since that entire game isn't nearly as difficult as traditional CV games.

Are there any more examples? I can't think right now.

Zig, you'll be pleased to know I unlocked Rondo on PSP and am playing it now for the Summer Gaming thread.

Also since you mentioned CV3... man I love CV3.

What can you tell me about the later later console games? I really have only dabbled in PS2 Vanias. Can't even remember which. And have not touched the PS3/360 one. (Is there more than one?)

Yeah I guess when you look at all the CV games, the clocktower stage is one of the 'constant' stages in all of them but really they aren't too bad.

It's funny because last night I finally beat the clocktower stage on Super Castlevania IV. Without dying even! Taking a break from a game sometimes and coming back to it helps greatly.
