She could just give the money to you, right?

She doesn't deserve it!

Capcom picked it up and it's supposed to be out June 4th. So, preorder?

Hmm...I won't preorder, as it's a practice I now don't really care for due to how ridiculous it has gotten with alternate versions, game quality, etc., but I will be interested in seeking it out within the weeks it has first been released. Thanks for letting me know!

Some YouTube personality named Thunderf00t (whom I'd never heard of before this) posted a rebuttal to Sarkeesian's first installment.

And here's a written rebuttal of that rebuttal by a blogger named Avicenna (who said everything I'd wanted to say in response to Thunderf00t, but with more humor).

Thoughts?

I didn't bother watching the response video and went straight to the rebuttal simply because I was more interested in seeing the criticism of criticism. I agree in general with Avicenna's statements as far as I can see in that scope. I also somewhat agree with Avicenna's general criticism at the end, though I feel I have different reasons.

In the original video, I was unsure of Sarkeesian's regards towards remakes of older games: should we remake them but with changes to erase the elements she found sexist, not remake them, or simply forget them to the tides of history. I enjoy game remakes, with updated visuals and music and bonus content, but I do not wish for plot elements to be changed or the game to effectively be censored. Instead I see them as historical artifact, so for me, modifying even simplistic plot elements seems shameful, even if those elements are considered offensive. I also oppose censoring the language of film and books even though it may be considered offensive in modern terms, such as The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Instead, these are artifcats of our culture at a particular point, and they should be studied as they are, without forcing us to erase our history. After watching the first video, I am wary of Sarkeesian's thoughts in this area because I never felt I recieved a direct grasp on her feelings. Hence my primary criticism.

That said, she did make valid points about common tropes in games from the era she was examining that should be pointed out. I still look forward to her second video.

Thunderfoot didn't get it. Avicenna not only got it, she provided decent insight herself. A little overlong, but she got there and summed it up well at the end.

The original video leaves a lot to be desired, but it's not without merit. The trouble lies with examining games that are over 20 years old through the "lens" of what passes for her version of "feminism", which isn't really feminism. Not only that, but what Ack is talking about too -- should we be erasing our history in a modern day remake just because the rules of the day are different? I certainly don't think so.

Damsel in Distress: Part 2 is up!

Most of the games discussed are ones I don't play, so I thought it was a bit less interesting than the first one. But I still thought it was worthwhile and am hungry for the rest!

Nice new video.

I don't play much AAA current-gen stuff so most of her examples were new to me. I was quite appalled to see many of those cutscenes. What a load of misogynist garbage.
