Does sound interesting and maybe worth pursuing (as long as it doesn't cost me a lot, though I could just buy it at a later date) , it's just that the point of this was to get PS1/PS2/NGC/Wii to look good on a HD TV, not to make it look like it was on an old television. But then again EHHHH. Would any of the following benefit from the SLG-3000?

-Non-480p Virtual Console games (NES, SNES, Neo Geo)
-60HZ Game Boy Player (GB, GBC, GBA)
-NGC/Wii games that nearly seem sharp but are blurry at the edges.
-2D PS1 & PS2 games
-Animal Crossing NES games
-2D Wii Games (non-sprite)

However a Sync Strike would make that a non-issue and you'd have the benefit of knowing that you had a good sync signal plus you'd have audio breakouts from the Sync Strike as well.
Yes, but then again things like that will jack up the total cost and this will be cheaper (possibly).

Scanlines help hide flaws. A high end enough scaler doesn't need them much.

In this situation I'd consider buying an extra Wii you can softmod permanently to NTSC in its entirety.

Then you'll be able to run Virtual Console games in 480p 60hz (except Neo Geo has no 480p here either), and US Animal Crossing. Without risking losing shop channel purchases made on that PAL Wii.

Well I might be able to get a SLG 3000 at some point, but scalers cost an awful lot. Though I do wonder if either make Composite Plug n Plays & Tri-Star 64 NES look good on HD TV...
Eh, I don't think I'd be so concerned as to buy a new console & games. Although can't you force PAL Wii games to run in NTSC modes like you would for them to run in 480p through Neo Gamma? It may not increase the visuals but it'd probably be worth a shot.
And hey, maybe someone could make a similar 480p forcing software for Virtual Console at some point.

PAL Wii games usually already have 480p.

Forcing Virtual Console games I'm not sure. I don't know what TVs would accept the non-standard 480p at 50hz.

I thought most of them removed 480p... But great if they do!
So I guess I'll start by getting and SCART-modding a GBS-8200 scaler?

Why do you only stop posting when I need an important buying decision question answered?

I'm not very familiar with scalers.

Short of piracy, what I'd do is over time phase out just the specific games you find 50hz or lack of 480p actually noticeable.

Nah, I'd rather deal with inferior video quality then phasing out games entirely.
I just wonder if I could request/order a SCART-modified GBS-8200 somewhere, because I might be having trouble getting it modded myself. Does anybody know where I could do that?

Well I guess, regional differences. Rarer use of customs duty is what tips the scales unfairly.
If I were in this situation importing games wouldn't be a problem. :(

I don't know anyone that advertises a mod like that but by the time you factor in shipping/parts/labor, it will likely add up to be close to the cost of a Sync Strike. Still, if you want someone to do the mod for you, just give them this link as it explains what to do. (or if you are up to the challenge of doing it yourself  ) I imagine that anyone who regularly does console mods or repairs should be capable of you doing it.
