Well, I did make a video which I posted earlier showing no input lag on the MVS. Others posted videos on the PS2 showing obvious input lag.dsheinem wrote:
Because I have a theory that many AES/MVS collectors shit on the SNK ports and compilations in an excessive fashion that serves to blow small problems out of proportion and "justify" their expensive purchases, I'd really like to see video comparison of this input lag vs NO input lag...
I don't doubt the compilation's games aren't 100% perfect (few ever are), but I am doubtful that the difference is as bad/problematic as some make it out to be.

Like I say, it's hard to see the input lag on the ps2, you feel it more than you see it.
Notice however on the MVS that you can see the response at the exact same moment that you hear the click of the microswitch. As soon as the button is pressed, the action is performed. There is zero input lag on MVS.
I'm not sure if you're asserting that I'm the collector that will, "shit on SNK ports" to, "justify their expensive purchases". In case you are, I just wanted to say that my MVS collection is complete, and many of the titles I don't even play. There is no justification for that, so I'm not the type that seeks any justification for my purchases, especially from people on a forum that I never met.
I hold all of the Metal Slug arcade records on Twin Galaxies for 2,3,4, and 5. This while I cannot 1cc any Metal Slug title on the PS2 version because of the input lag. That is just me sharing my experience with the PS2 version. I'm not trying to justify any purchase which to me would be a silly and ignorant notion. I would gain absolutely nothing by making up such things.
Furthermore, I purchased the Anthology for the PS2 AFTER I owned all of the Metal Slug titles on MVS. The OP asked about ports and I simply shared my experience with them. There is no agenda nor anything else to it other than that.
BTW, if you google "Metal Slug Anthology input lag" you can see the issue discussed and confirmed for pages and pages across gaming forums all over the web. I doubt most of the people raising the issue own the original hardware.

Re: Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
Ah, I just watched the video and didn't notice you had edited it in to an earlier post. I don't see input lag on either the MVS or the PS2 in that video, so maybe it is just a "feel" thing. I don't "feel" the difference between the MAME ROM and the PS2 version, though. How would you compare the MAME to the MVS? The MAME to PS2?dmike wrote:Well, I did make a video which I posted earlier showing no input lag on the MVS. Others posted videos on the PS2 showing obvious input lag.dsheinem wrote:

I said I have a theory that many - not all - MVS/AES collectors blow the PS2 port problems way out of proportion to feel better about having their carts. (In fairness, many people who collect PCBs more generally often do this with comparing home ports of those games too.) I find that sometimes those arguments can be made very strongly and clearly on some games (depending on the game)...but I haven't seen them made strongly or clearly as regards the ports of SNK titles.
Re: Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
Yeah what I needed to to was do slow mo so it was obvious. In the MVS version as soon as the switch clicks, the bullet fires. On the ps2, the button is released before the bullet fires.
I experience the same issue in MAME as with PS2. Both act the same to me.
I understand what you're saying about PCB owners and such. To be clear I'm not doubting that what you're saying happens, just wanted to point out that I'm not the kind of person that does that.
Oh, and I'm just going by memory here, but I don't not seem to remember any input lag on the PSP. I'll have to fire it up again and check.

Re: Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
So does this also imply that there are home ports that are better than MAME ROMs of various Metal Slug games?dmike wrote:I experience the same issue in MAME as with PS2. Both act the same to me.
Re: Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
I can't say. There could be a lot that goes into the issue with MAME such as the version, the particular BIOS being used, the controller. I'd have to say that I'm not sure.dsheinem wrote:So does this also imply that there are home ports that are better than MAME ROMs of various Metal Slug games?dmike wrote:I experience the same issue in MAME as with PS2. I did just fire up the PSP to check real quick. I got no detectable input lag on the PSP version of the Anthology.

Re: Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
Here we go w/MAME again. What is MAME. MAME ROMS are dependent on the hardware you are running them on - the rom in theory should be flawless, it doesn't mean your experience playing it is going to be flawless...and it RARELY is. MVS hardware is designed to run MVS games - your particular PC and your particular USB controller are not designed for Metal Slug. The idea of MAME should not even enter into this thread.dsheinem wrote:I don't "feel" the difference between the MAME ROM and the PS2 version, though. How would you compare the MAME to the MVS? Re: Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
Sure it should since we are comparing the quality of ports/emulation of the games. Different MAME ROMs for different games are more or less faithful instances of emulation (regardless of the hardware or build used to play them).mjmjr25 wrote:MAME ROMS are dependent on the hardware you are running them on - the rom in theory should be flawless, it doesn't mean your experience playing it is going to be flawless...and it RARELY is. I am not suggesting that any MAME ROM is EQUAL to a MVS cart or a PCB etc...but I am curious what the differences are and if they are significant "enough" to hamper my enjoyment of or lessen my experience with the game.
Re: Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
That all depends upon your setup. The ROMS may be perfect copies but it does not mean they are executed perfectly.dsheinem wrote:

Also worthy of note... the Neo Geo uses some oddball refresh rate. It is not 60hz. I don't remember what it is, but it's 50 something hz with a fractional frame as well. Maybe this plays a part or maybe it doesn't. My personal experience with MAME on Metal Slug games is input lag.
Re: Definitive ports of the Metal Slug games?
Can people specify when they say PS2 version, if they mean the Ports or the Emulated compassion.
