You should really give 2 a try. I thought it was a lot more fun then the first.

The boulder power up on the other hand I can understand that it would mess up some levels.
I suppose the fireflower would make beating the stages too easy, the fire flower was already really strong in the 2D ones and the 2D ones are harder than the 3D ones.

This has been a fun read, and I'm looking forward to reading more opinions about this game. I vaguely remember playing this and getting a few levels in. I don't believe I ever actually beat the game myself, but I do remember watching my best friend beat Bowser.

I will be playing all the 2D Mario games for the "Summer Challenge", but I do actually own a copy of Mario 64. Looks like I'll be giving this one a shot after I finish Super Mario World 2.

I also just recommend playing Mario 64 DS. It looks a lot better, they fixed the camera and the levels are a lot easier when playing with the various other character's abilities. Sure there is not analog thumbstick, and if you try to use the touchsreen controls...look out, but the D-Pad doesn't do that bad of a job.

^ You could play it on a 3DS and gain the thumbstick.

Yes, but it's still digital controls. It just functions as the D-Pad would.

Dont get your hopes up, I thought the same thing when I got my 3ds and got a copy of Mario 64ds, but was dissapointed that the circle pad controls just like the d-pad.
